Fourball Championship Set For Grandstand Finish2 min read

Posted on: 13th Feb 2019

The 2019 Confederation of Professional Golf Fourball Championship Presented By Costa Daurada overnight leaders, Toni Ferrer & Pep Angles (PGA of Spain), managed to maintain their advantage in Round 02, giving them a single shot lead over the rest of the leaderboard at 17-under.

Ferrer & Angles followed on from their opening 10-under par on Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community’s Lakes Course, with a seven-under par 65 on the Hills Course.

“We are going to try to keep the same strategy,” said Ferrer. “I always hit first and Pep second so he feels more confident, so we will keep doing the same thing and stay patient.”

“You can get a little impatient when you get off to a slow start in a Fourball,” added Angles. “But I think we are playing good enough to win so we are going to go for it.”

Starting on the 10th tee, the Spaniards were able to earn five birdies in their opening 10 holes, but hit a speed-bump on the fifth hole with an uncharacteristic double-bogey six.

But they fought back just a few holes later to make an eagle three on the par-five seventh and a birdie on their last hole to finish with their 17-under par total (126).

Advancing one place up the leaderboard was the PGA of GB&I pair of Guy Woodman and Chris Rodgers, with a second round eight-under 63 on the Lakes and a 16-under total (127).

A further two shots back are PGA of Spain pairs, Jordan Gibb & Liam Murray and Xavi Puig Giner & Emilio Cuartero Blanco, sharing tied-third position on 14-under par (129).

Nine pairs then also sit within five of the lead as 45 pairs advance into the third and final round.
