Ferrer & Angles Secure Early Fourball Lead2 min read

Posted on: 12th Feb 2019

PGA of Spain Professionals, Toni Ferrer & Pep Angles, carded an opening 10-under 61 to take the Round 01 2019 Confederation of Professional Golf Fourball Championship Presented By Costa Daurada lead at Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, Spain.

A bogey-free scorecard led Ferrer & Angles to their one-shot lead with Angles accumulating eight of the pair’s 10 birdies:

“It is one of those tournaments where you know it is going to be one plays well one day and the other plays well the other day – so it is all about matching-up your play and being able to cope with the bad holes,” said Angles.  “Today was one of those days where I was able to make birdies and Toni was able to make pars to make us feel comfortable.

“He made a really good birdie on 16, a really good putt on 17, and then a good eagle chance on the last hole which meant we could shoot 10-under.”

One half of the defending Champions, Xavi Puig Giner, and new partner and 2018 Costa Daurada International Pro-Am Champion, Emilio Cuartero, sit in second place on nine-under par after their 62, again on the Lakes Course.

Four pairs sit a further shot back on eight-under par with Jacobo Pastor & Miguel Cantero (PGA of Spain) and Guy Woodman & Chris Rodgers (PGA of GB&I) carding 64s on the Hills Course, and Tim Rice & Michael McGeady (PGA of GB&I) and Sebastián García Rodriguez & Javier Herranz de cruz (PGA of Spain) shooting 63s on the Lakes.

A cut after Round 02 will see the top 40 teams and ties progress through to the final round on the Lakes Course on Thursday.
