Battling gusting winds from the Ionian Sea, PGA of Israel Professional, Asaf Cohen, began his 2020 Messinia Pro-Am week at Costa Navarino with an outstanding five-under par 66 on The Bay Course.
With 50 Teams of one Professional and three amateurs, the 4th Messinia Pro-Am got off to a blustery start with competitors facing up to 45kph gusts, but Cohen was able to make seven birdies and just two bogeys for his five-under total.
“I am very happy with my score in this wind,” said Cohen. “I tried to keep things simple and hit fairway and greens in regulation…and managed to make a number of birdies. I love the course, the condition is amazing and the organisation is very good.”
Second place sits with PGA of Italy Professional, Michele Reale, just one shot behind on four-under par after taming The Dunes Course, followed by fellow PGA of Italy Member, Alessandro Tadini in third position on two-under par.
The Team Pro-Am event is led through Round 01 by the team of PGA of Austria Professional, Armin Posratschnig, and amateurs Reinhard Krämmer, Christian Schmid and Manfred Kepold, who carded 85 points (-13) on The Bay Course.
Teams Hennessey, Bossert and Kritikos sit in tied-second position just one shot behind the leaders, on 84 points (-13).
