Posted on: 1st Mar 2016

Round 1 of the PGA of South Africa World Club Pro-Am teed-off to tough surroundings at Zimbali Country Club with windy conditions putting pressure on the players right at the outset of the tournament.

Despite the challenges faced, Zimbali’s premier Tom Weiskopf designed 18-hole signature course delivered on its promise to provide a true test of golf and proved why it is rated among the top-10 ultimate golf experiences in South Africa.

The Professional Stableford finished tied 1st on 38 points by title defender, Henrik Engdahl, from the Crete Golf Club in Greece and South African, Michael du Toit, from Royal Johannesburg Golf Club.

3rd place is also tied on 37 points by Paul Marks, Chairman of the PGA of South Africa and representing Woodhill Golf Club, Christoph Gunther from Project Golf Club in Germany, South African, Steven Shearer, from Zimbali Country Club and Julien Gressier from Chateau de Raray Golf Club in France.

Michael du Toit had this to say about his game in the first round, “The windy conditions definitely called for a more conservative game, but aggressive play where needed. I am looking forward to taking on the challenges at Cotswold in Round 2.”

Julien Gressier added, “Despite the tough conditions I enjoyed playing the Zimbali course and I’m looking forward to just having fun playing each of the courses this week.”

The South African teams are dominating the 4-ball alliance with last year’s winners, Krugersdorp Golf Club tied 1st on 88 points with the team from Woodhill Golf Club. Trailing just two shots behind is the team from Royal Johannesburg on 86 points followed in tied 4th on 84 points by the teams from State Mines Golf Club and Reading Country Club.

Round 2 will tee-off at Cotswold Downs Golf Club with more favorable weather conditions predicted, adding some relief after a tough start.
