UniCredit 2012 PGA Professional Championship of Europe – Round One2 min read

Posted on: 18th Sep 2012

The leaderboard after Day One of the 2012 UniCredit PGA Professional Championship of Europe is filled with a solid mixture of scores, as the wet weather from Sunday subsided a little to ease in the players in the first day of the tournament.

Championship leader after the first round, Mikel Galdos from Spain, carded a five-under 67 around the championship course at Pravets Golf and Spa Resort in Bulgaria.

Galdos is followed by a tightly packed groups of four players at four-under par, including the reigning champion Hugo Santos of Portugal, who took home the trophy in 2011.

Two players at three-under, three at two-under, and no less than seven of the field at one-under par, means there’s plenty of competitors poised to make their move going into the second day of the championship.

Play was pretty much standard procedure for most of the field, however, shot of the day will be going to Swedish PGA member Tomas Setterhill, for holing out from a fairway bunker on the 11th hole for an eagle two (having already narrowly missed out on doing the same on the 1st hole earlier in the day!).

With weather conditions slowly improving, and the course holding up well considering the watering it has had during the previous few days, play should continue well with more sub-par rounds no doubt being out there.
