Round 01 Lead Split Seven-ways in 2019 #BekoClassic1 min read

Posted on: 11th Oct 2019

ROUND 01

PROFESSIONAL LEADERS: Richard Finch, Gary Wolstenholme, Mark Reynolds, Jesper Kennegard, Andrew Marshall, Mitchell Waite, Robert Coles (-4)

TEAM LEADER: Golferz 21 (-20)

Round 01 of the 2019 #BekoClassic paved the way for an exciting tournament battle, where no less than seven players tied for the lead on a sparkling day of golf at Carya Golf Club, Turkey.

European Tour star Richard Finch and amateur-golfing-legend-turned-professional Gary Wolstenholme were notable names to feature at the top on four-under-par after rounds of 68. They were also joined by a mix of Swedish, Dutch and British professionals on the same total in Jesper Kennegard, Mark Reynolds, Andrew Marshall, Mitchell Waite and Robert Coles.

“I struck the ball well and had a really good team which helps, so I am really happy to tie with some good players like Gary (Wolstenhome)” said PGA of Holland’s Mark Reynolds.

Wolstenholme, famed for his Walker Cup exploits, commented: “Carya golf club is a great test of golf. You really have to play all the shots, but it does give you the opportunity to make a good score.”

Adding to this closely-contested narrative even further is the fact that second position on three-under-par is held by some strong players in 2018 Beko Classic winner Georg Schultes, Ladies European Tour Professional Carly Boothand Senior Tour Professional Phil Golding.

Team Golferz 21 (with amateurs Mehmet Saracoglu, Zeynep Celikoglu and Erdem Yilmazturk) hold the lead in the team event after scoring 92 points (-20), followed by Team Opet 1 on 90 points (-18).
