Rookie Hayward Takes #BlackSeaRama Lead2 min read

Posted on: 10th Jul 2019

In a field littered with experience, it was Confederation of Professional Golf Sanctioned Event first-timer, Jack Hayward, who shone after Round 1 of the 11th BlackSeaRama Vivacom Pro-Am, shooting a sizzling 66 at Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort in Bulgaria.

Despite a respectably steady front nine score of 35, it was his late charge during the final nine holes where Hayward really made his mark on the tournament, compiling three birdies in as many holes on 14, 15 and 16 for his five-under finish.

“Most of the season I’ve struggled a little bit with my scoring. I’ve not being doing a lot wrong but just wasn’t getting the results, so it was nice to get out today and just go and play,” said the Briton.

“I played a practice round there ready for tomorrow [Thracian Cliffs] and that is a tough, tough golf course. So I’m just going to keep my head down and fight for everything.”

Behind him in solo-second is fellow Brit, Liam Bond (PGA of GB&I), who had held the lead for the majority of the day with his three-under par 66. With a closely packed field of veteran Professionals around the same mark, it is still all to play for tomorrow at Thracian Cliffs Golf & Spa Resort, a course notorious for producing drama in previous editions of the event.

In the team competition, Team Bond, with amateurs Ivan SkripkinNikita Sripkin and Andrey Stolyarov lead the way on 91 points (-19), followed closely behind in second by Team Hayward on 89 points (-17).
