The 2014 UniCredit PGA Professional Championship of Europe Official Pro-Am culminated today with the team made up of PGA of Italy Professional, Zeke Martinez, and amateurs Ilia El Feleki, Lubomir Tushev, and Andon Tushev carding a fantastic 87 points second round total to finish on 175 points (-31) for the event.
A first round one-better of 88 points from the quartet at Pravets Golf Club that included an 8-pointer on the 10th and six six-point holes got them off to a fantastic start. A second round filled with much of the same including a seven-point total at the 13th hole ensured they kept their lead to secure the Pro-Am title.
“I was lucky enough to play with my team for two days in a row which some of the other teams weren’t able to,” explained Martinez. “But thanks to ‘Lubo’ who is a great player and really helped our team, Andon who is a really solid player, and Ilia who is also very good, it was a great victory and everyone’s pretty happy that we won.”
Solid play from the Italian who has played regularly on the European Seniors Tour in the past few years should stand him in good stead for the upcoming 72-holes of the Professional Championship, and he’s got one thing on his mind – “I think there’s only one place I can go from here – first right!”
The second place team of Tiberius Popa, Bogdan Jigman, Nicolae Kovacs, who played with Professionals Damjan Murgelj (PGA of Slovenia) and Ronny Schinnerl (PGA of Austria), carded rounds of 86 and 81 points for a total of 167 (-23).
Just one point behind in third place were amateurs Todor Chakov, Pam Jones, and Wayne Fulton who, with the help of PGA of Spain Professionals, Jose Manuel Mancebo and Miguel Fajardo, scored two rounds of 83 points to end on 166 points (-22).
