On a day of tough scoring conditions at the Vilnius Grand Resort in Lithuania, it was the Lithuania’s Arnas Kaunas and the PGA of Italy’s Federico Elli who took the early lead at the The Vilnius Pro-Am 2019 with two, two-over par rounds of 74.
In joint second, and three shots further back, are the foursome of Itamar Cohen (PGA of Israel), Henrik Engdahl (PGA of Greece), Anton Guedra (PGA of Sweden) and Akim Hassan (PGA of Italy).
But in the end it was experience that proved pivotal on the day where Kaunas, who is only one of two PGA of Lithuania professionals in the field, used local course knowledge to take the early clubhouse lead.
Elli, a past Confederation of Professional Golf Sanctioned Event winner, demonstrated patience and precision to join him: “Today the course was very tough and very narrow, but it is in great condition. Slick greens which I really do like, and we enjoyed it – the weather is perfect and apart from a slightly shaky start I enjoyed it.”
In the team event, Team Gedminas took the outright lead with a combined score of 81 stableford points (-9), led by Vytautas Gedminas (PGA of Lithuania) with amateurs Valentas Ivančenka, Stanislov Kozel and Minautas Petronis. These are followed closely by Team Kaunas in second with 80 points (-8) and Team Elli in third place with 77 points (-5).
