Battling Elli Claims Solo Lead in Vilnius1 min read

Posted on: 31st May 2019

Despite tough conditions and overcoming illness, it was PGA of Italy’s Federico Elli who took the initiative to grab the second round lead of  The Vilnius Pro-Am 2019 at Vilnius Grand Resort in Lithuania.

Elli’s four-over par total (148) keeps him three ahead of the PGA of Greece’s Henrik Engdahl who also shot a two-over par 74 to claim solo second at 151 (+7). Closely behind in third at 153 (+9), is Lithuanian Professional and Round 01 joint leader, Arnas Kaunas, after a seven-over par 79.

“The ambulance came to visit me because I was very ill this morning,” said Elli. “Somehow, I just put the ball on the first tee and it happened… but it was pretty tough!”

As with the first day, challenging conditions and a tricky course layout proved to be the key themes across Round 02, emphasising the need to minimise mistakes rather than hunting for birdies in order to contend, as Elli did once more with four bogeys and two birdies.

In the team category, it was a case of local knowledge coming to the fore once more as Lithuanian Team Kaunas, with amateurs Diana Jackune, Aurelijus Rusteikaand Dainius Sutavicius, and VytautasGedminas and his amateurs Valentas IvančenkaStanislov Kozel and Minautas Petronis, who are in first and second place respectively, following round two scores of 78 points (-14 total) and 74 points (-11 total).
