Gane Makes it 4 in a Row at Al Ain2 min read

Posted on: 28th Jan 2022

England’s Chris Gane continued his love affair for Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club [AESGC] in the United Arab Emirates with a closing round 61 [-9] that earned him an incredible fourth AESGC International Pro-Am title a row.

“It feels great…you can’t really legislate for a day like today – I was three or four shots behind Johanna [Gustavsson] and it was of those days when everything came together,” said the PGA of GB&I Member, pictured above, alongside AESGC Operations Manager, Tom Buchanan.

“I’m lucky to be able to come out from the UK this time of year to play…and coming back to somewhere where you’ve won before then there are always good feelings towards it. The team also dovetailed well together – you have someone disappear for a couple of holes but then luckily someone fills in. And it’s the same for them, it’s such a nice place and they feel great about being here.”

Gane started the final round aboard the birdie train, making the turn in 28 following five birdies and an eagle. A steadier back nine of two-under gave him his course record-equalling round score, and an 11-under total for the tournament [269].

Overnight leader, Johanna Gustavsson (PGA of Sweden & Ladies European Tour Member), still managed to go low even under mounting pressure Gane, with a three-under par 67 in the final round and an eight-under par (272) total for the event, just three shots back.

Third ended in a tie between the PGA of Sweden’s Jesper Karlsson and the PGA of GB&I’s Alex Wrigley each finishing on two-over [+2] for the week.

Gane proved dominant in the Team Pro-Am event alongside his teammates Andrew Doswell, Warren Emery and John Harper, with an incredible total of 343pts [-55] following four consistently high scoring rounds.

Second place went to Steve Dooley (PGA of Austria), Claudia Stritecky, Kathi Rabas and Alfred Velharticky, with 333pts, followed by Johanna Gustavsson, Hans Gustavsson, Glenn Adolfsson and Arne Ekehed, in third place with 331pts.
