Gaggero Storms to Early Lead at Costa Navarino1 min read

Posted on: 12th Jun 2014

Two-time Aegean Airlines Pro-Am winner, Nicolo Gaggero (PGA of Italy), surged ahead after day one of the international Pro-Am at Costa Navarino in Greece, carding an outstanding eight-under par, 63, in a day that saw rising temperatures as well as a stoppage due to thunder and lightening.

Whilst storms may have paused a number of Professionals’ challenges at the 9th edition of the Pro-Am, the defending champion Gaggero didn’t show signs of stopping with a 63 that was as solid as they come.

Three birdies on the front-nine of the Dunes course and five more on the back nine meant the Italian set the bar high for the tournament, but an experienced and persistent pack of challengers are right on his tail.

The nearest Professionals to Gaggero lie at a ‘tied-for-second’ four-under par (67) and include Henrik Engdahl (Greece) and Zeke Martinez (Italy) (Dunes Round 1), and Mike Burrows (Austria) and Frederik Svanberg (Swtizerland) (Bay Round 1).

Gaggero also leads the way in the team Pro-Am tournament with his team of Emanuel Georgoudis, Orlando Grondona and Marco Villa who posted an incredible 24-under stableford points total of 96. Mike Leitch of Great Britain & Ireland features in second place on 90 points with his amateur team of Platon Lanitis, Andreas Charitou and Philippos Philis.

Round 2 gets underway at 07:30am EEST at Costa Navarino’s Dunes and Bay Courses. For live scores visit http://eur.pe/1gEi0X8.
