2022 BEKO CLASSIC PRO-AM
REGNUM GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB BODRUM , TURKEY
21 – 23 OCTOBER 2022
England’s Billy Spooner took the 25th Anniversary Beko Classic Pro-Am, honours this week at Regnum Golf & Country Bodrum in Turkey, after a final two-under par 69 secured the win by a single shot.
With the field tight at the top all week, it was Spooner who held on following six birdies one double and two single bogeys, to win the MVK Golf Cup and $10,000 winner’s prize:
“I’m feeling really good. I played pretty well all week…It is my second time here now, and I’m absolutely delighted to get the win,” said Spooner.
“Obviously I was fortunate enough to play last year as well. It’s just really nice to mix with different people that you don’t really meet every week. You play with different people each day, and I played with some great players and people as well – it’s just a privilege to play in it.”
No less than four Professionals tied for second place – Georg Schultes (PGA of Austria) two over 73 saw him just miss out on his second CPG win of the season, joined by Raymond Russell with a closing 73. Andrew Marshall’s one over par 72 kept him at -3, with Gary Boyd being the only of the four to shoot under par with a -2 69 securing his spot.
PGA of America Professional and Major Winner, Rich Beem, took solo sixth place on -2, followed by defending champion, Chris Gane (PGA of GB&I), at even par for the week.
The Team Pro-Am event was won by Opet 2 – Mehmet Ziylan, Ismail Erdoğan and Mustafa Mazman – who were joined by Spooner, LET Professional, Isabella Deilert and DP World Tour Professional, Gavin Moynihan, helping them to reach an incredible total of 285 points (-69).
Team Nude Golf – Bilal Başel, Ismail Dengiz and Taner Aslan – took second place with 271 pts (-55), with Team Opet 3 – Recep Turan, Emre Bahtoğlu and Zuhra Kirimgeri – finishing in third with 262 pts (-46).
With the event celebrating 25 years of fun and competition in Turkey, the CPG and its 43 Member Country PGAs were able to recognise this with the presentation of a commemorative salver to Honorary Chairman of Koç Holding, Mr Rahmi M. Koç. The award acknowledges the efforts of Beko, the Koç family and the late Mr Mustafa Koç and impact that the event has had across a quarter of a century in developing Turkey in to world class golf destination through exposing it to Professional and amateur golfers alike.
