The PGA of Spain’s Peter Gustafsson, representing Europe, takes the lead after Round 1 of the Bermuda3s World Team Championship presented by Goslings.
The inaugural World Team Par 3 Championship was created by golf industry veterans Joe Steranka, former PGA of America Chief Executive, and Honda classic Executive Director Ken Kennerly, and sees teams of 1 Professional and 3 Amateurs from 4 different territories (USA, Continental Europe, Canada and Great Britain) compete over 36 holes of Championship Golf on Mid Ocean and Port Royal Golf Club, followed by 36 holes to be battled out on the famed Par 3 Turtle Hill Golf Course.
With Professionals competing for a first prize check of $11,000, it was Europe’s Peter Gustafsson who snatched the lead after round 1 at Mid Ocean Golf Club, with a 1-under par opening round, placing him 2 shots ahead of the USA’s Cary Sciorra and Bermuda’s own Daniel Augustus.
In the Team Category, team “Trump International Golf Club” led by Professional John Nieporte, along with amateurs Keith Frankel, Pete Mazzola and Andrew Graves had a strong 18-under par opening round, placing them 4 shots ahead of team “Turtle Hill Golf Club” led by professional Dwayne Pearman along with Michael Dunkley, Christopher Morris and Craig Christensen. Round 2 will be played at Port Royal Golf Course before moving into the final 36 holes of Par 3 golf at Turtle Hill Golf Club.
