Lilly Smashes Turtle Hill Course Record2 min read

Posted on: 25th Oct 2018

Simon Lilly carded a seven-under par 47 in Round 3 of the Bermuda3s World Team Championship presented by Goslings to smash the existing course record by three shots and enter the final round of the tournament with an astonishing 12 -shot lead over USA’s Cary Sciorra who stands in second place.

After battling the wind for 36 holes on the Championship Courses of Mid Ocean Golf Club and Port Royal Golf Club, the Briton [pictured, second centre-left] entered Round 03 of the tournament on the 18-hole par-three course Turtle Hill with a one shot lead.

It was here that he demonstrated his full potential and used his Par-3 Championship experience to his advantage. His seven-under par round and stretched his lead to 12 shots over the rest of the field, entering the last round comfortably ahead and positioning himself within reach of first place’s check for $11,000.

“It was a nice day, I started off nicely and just made 7 birdies and no bogeys,” said Lilly.  “We have the British par-3 Championship in the UK, which I have played for four seasons, and it’s just such a great format. The key shot of the days was holing the first putt form about 20 feet which put me off to a good start.”

In the team category, team ‘Trump International Golf Club’, who were off to a great start and held the lead for the first two rounds, succumbed to the experience and course knowledge of the local “Turtle Hill Golf Club” team, who with a nett 93 launched themselves to the highest spot on the leaderboard at 32 under par, three shots clear of their closest contestants. The team is lead by Professional, Dwayne Pearman, along with amateurs Michael Dunkley, Christopher Morris and Craig Christensen.
