Among the entries is one of golf’s most courageous practitioners, David Carter, the South Africa-born Englishman who, in 1997, collapsed in his hotel in Dubai and was saved by emergency brain surgery, and subsequently fought his way back into the sport to win honours.
Carter, one of his country’s most promising players, recovered to become a winner of the Irish Open on the European Tour in 1998 and is best remembered the same year as Nick Faldo’s winning partner in England’s first ever triumph in the World Cup of Golf (left). For the last four years he has specialised in coaching in the Czech Republic.
In its previous three years the BlackSeaRama Pro-Am has been staged solely and successfully at the luxury Resort on the superb Gary Player-designed golf course.
Now a unique facelift has been provided for the four-man teams of PGA pro and three amateurs by adding the ‘Lighthouse’ (Ian Woosnam signature) and ‘Thracian Cliffs’ (Player signature) courses that have been cleverly created along the ruggedly beautiful high-rise coastline.
Wonderful sea views are the backdrop to a region that is being described in the travel industry as among Europe’s most attractive for sport, leisure and general tourism.
