Having started his final round four shots off the lead, Robbie Busher (PGA of GB&I) battled back to claim the 2019 Abu Dhabi Pro-Am Presented by Troon Golf in extraordinary fashion at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, UAE.
Fellow Englishman, Joe Heraty, entered the final round at seven-under par after two rounds at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club. But despite having moved to eight-under through nine holes, the sudden strong wind that picked up in the afternoon led him to bogey 12 and 13 and then triple bogey 14.
Meanwhile, Busher’s steady two-under par on the front nine meant he would move to five-under, and although he bogeyed the 18th, his four-under total (212) was good enough to see his name on top of the leaderboard.
“It’s been a brilliant week…we’ve had great fun and faced challenging conditions on the first day and today, which were really windy…they are two incredible golf courses, so all in all a brilliant week,” said Busher.
“I didn’t really think about winning. I was hopeful that if I did play really well then I would have a good chance, and when I was out there I felt that it would be really tough to move forward, but I putted great and grinded it out in pretty tough weather.”
At three-under par (213), Emanuele Canonica (PGA of Italy), Uli Weinhandl (PGA of Austria), and Englishmen Joe Heraty and Richard Wallis (PGA of GB&I) share second place, whilst sixth place went to Alps Tour member, Ben Wheeler, at two-under par (214).
In the Team Pro-Am event, Team Heraty [pictured above], led by Joe Heraty with amateurs Frederic Gastaldo, Bilbo Perrot and Marco Saviozzi, shot an outstanding 86 stableford points to finish their tournament with 251 points (-35) and claim the team title.
Team Busher had led the way for the first two days, but eventually finished with a total of 248 points (-32) for second place, followed by Team Wallis who finished up in third place with 247 points (-31).
