Chris Gane claimed a playoff victory in the 2021 Beko Classic Pro-Am yesterday after beating Steven Tiley on the first extra hole at Carya Golf Club.
The British Professional got off to a flying start in the three-day tournament with a phenomenal first round score of 64 (-8) to make him the man to beat. However, his one-over-par second round on a very narrow setup at National Golf Club brought the rest of the field back into the mix heading into the third and final round.
After a strong third-round of 69 (-3), European Tour player Steven Tiley finished on 205 (-10) for the tournament to join Gane in tied first position, meaning both players headed back down the 18th hole for a sudden-death playoff to decide who would be the champion. With Tiley hitting his tee shot into the water on the first extra hole, a two-putt par was enough for Gane to claim his maiden Beko Classic Pro-Am victory in Turkey.
“I am delighted to be sat here as champion” Gane commented. “I struggled a little on the greens, but my ball striking has been superb all week. Having played in this event multiple times it was always one that I wanted to win, so to get over the line (and win) is an incredible feeling.”
With Steven Tiley finishing in solo-second after the playoff, third position was shared by Australian Brett Rankinand British Professional Pavan Sagoo on 206 (-9).
