A Shake Up In The World Club Pro-Am Leaderboard3 min read

Posted on: 1st Mar 2016

A shake up in the leaderboard brought Round 2 of the PGA of South Africa World Club Pro-Am to an exciting close at Cotswold Downs Golf Estate.

While it may be one of KwaZulu-Natal’s younger courses, Cotswold’s renown Peter Matkovich design showcased its world-class layout that has made it one of the top 5 emerging courses in Southern Africa. And whilst the field faced extreme heat and humid conditions, it failed to hamper the fierce competition among the players for this year’s title and team trophy.

The PGA Professionals went head-to-head as they battled it out for top spot at the end of 36 holes. Julien Gressier from Chateau de Raray Golf Club in France pushed his way up the field with an impressive round of 40 points, finishing top of the leaderboard on a total of 77 points.

Title defender, Henrik Engdahl from Crete Golf Club in Greece, dropped down two shots finishing this round on 37 points and 2nd place on the board with a total of 75 points.

Kenneth Dube from Mananga Swaziland Golf Club made his move up the field from tied 7th to a solid 3rd place on 40 points and a total of 74 points, whilst German Christoph Gunther from Project Golf Club and South African Michael du Toit are tied at 4th place on a total of 73 points.

Gressier commented on his game going into the next round: “I plan to stay with the same strategy, which is to take pleasure on every hole and to stay focused on my putting.”

The South African teams continue to lead the field in the Pro-Am 4-ball Alliance with Woodhill Golf Club pushing ahead to claim 1st place on a total of 169 points.

Hot on their heels and just two shots behind is the team trophy defenders from Krugersdorp Golf Club, who finished on a total of 167 points. With just a shot between them, the teams from Royal Johannesburg & Kensington GC, Durban Country Club (who have entered a team of three caddies to play with their PGA Professional) and River Club will be looking to chase the lead going into the next round.

Round 03 will present a new set of challenges as the tournament heads north up the KwaZulu-Natal coast to Prince’s Grant Golf Estate where the teams will tackle their next 18-holes.
