Team Belgium Come Out On Top of ITC Round 2 Battle2 min read

Posted on: 22nd Nov 2018

The PGA of Belgium, Captained by Guillaume Watremez, along with Nicolas Vanhootegem and Dider De Vooght took the lead after Round 2 of the Confederation of Professional Golf International Team Championship with an overall score of three-under par (281) at Costa Navarino in Greece.

As the field battled the windy Peloponnese conditions throughout the day, the PGA of Germany Team, Captained by Dennis Küpper, with Dennis Lohrmann and Benjamin Frenzel, made a strong move, holding the lead throughout most of the day.

Meanwhile the PGA of Spain, Captained by Carlos Balsameda, with Carlos Gonzalez and Francisco Lagarto, also made an aggressive climb up the leaderboard from T-7th to T-2nd.

But Belgium’s steady level-par second round (142) was good enough to take the top spot on the leaderboard and enter Round 03 three strokes ahead.

“The team was fantastic – Nicolas played very well,” said Captain Watremez. “He shot two-under yesterday and two-under today so his game at the moment is great. Didier’s game was also very good yesterday whilst today he put on a fight.  Overall the first two days were very good and I’m very happy.”

“Before we came here I thought we had a good team; Guillaume and Nicolas won pretty much everything there was to win in Belgium this year so I knew they were playing very well,” added De Vooght.

“Yesterday was a good round, whilst today’s first nine were not as pretty, but I hung on in the back nine whilst I watched Nicolas hole putts…it’s easy to play behind him, he’s actually a very good motivator.”
