Lumine Golf Festival Concludes With Inaugural International Pro-Am3 min read

More triumph and challenge at Spain’s premier golf and leisure destination as Lumine welcomes 18 Professional Players and their teams for the inaugural Lumine International Pro-Am

A field of Europe’s finest professionals and amateurs shared the stage this week (10-12 February) as Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Club hosted its inaugural Lumine International Pro-Am. With a 54-hole stroke play tournament, carrying a guaranteed prize fund of €20,000 for the professionals, being played alongside the Pro-Am, 18 teams arrived in the Costa Daurada to take on the renowned, championship Lakes and Hills courses.

Hot off the back of a tied-third finish at the Confederation of Professional Golf Fourball Championship – held at Lumine over the preceding three days – Lorenzo Gagli (PGA of Italy) managed to hold off his professional counterparts throughout all three rounds and emerged victorious in the individual event with a three-under-par total.

Lorenzo said of his successful week: “The course is in very good condition, the greens are great and also the weather is a little bit different from the Fourball, and so it is a little bit easier. [Playing in the Fourball has] of course helped because I have played two rounds [at the Lakes Course]… so I know the course a little bit better. The two courses are great, and in fantastic condition… they are good designs.”

In second place was Lumine fan, Bjorn Pettersson (PGA of Sweden): “It was really nice today, the greens are perfect I would say. I like it a lot down here. I’m here pretty often…playing golf and having a good time. I absolutely love it. It’s awesome.”

Joining Lorenzo in the winners’ circle, after also leading for all three rounds, were Pro-Am team, Eric Colletta (PGA of France) and amateurs, Pierre Fedrigo, J Baptiste Montaut and Simon Cohen. The quartet carded an impressive final round stableford score of 83 points (-11), to give them a total of 256 points (-40).

Calle Carlsson, General Manager, Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Club, said: “It has been an honour to welcome the Confederation of Professional Golf and avid amateur golfers to Lumine for a week of celebration. We’ve seen some outstanding golf and are thrilled our on and off-course facilities and service have ensured our guests a memorable visit. Congratulations to all of this week’s winners.”

Both the Confederation of Professional Golf Fourball Championship and Lumine International Pro-Am were played across Lumine’s renowned Lakes and Hills courses.

Designed by two-time Major Champion and World Golf Hall of Famer, Greg Norman, The Lakes course places more emphasis on golfers’ technical proficiency. Positioned on the lowest lying land on the property, navigating its way through areas of wetlands and natural vegetation, the 6,300-metre par 71 golf course offers a Links design that is a genuine challenge for any golfer.

Meanwhile Lumine Hills undoubtedly gives players the most spectacular views from the resort, rolling through leafy woods of white pine and extensive plantations of olive and carob trees. Stretching across 6,334 metres, the par 72 Hills course rises to offer exceptional views out onto the Mediterranean Sea.

The Troon managed property lies just 50 minutes south of Barcelona and is home to a luxury Beach Club and a state-of-the-art Golf Academy. Neighbouring the property is Europe’s most popular theme park, Port Aventura, a comprehensive meetings and conference centre, the coastal towns of Salou and Cambrils, both renowned for their nightlife and cuisine, and just ten minutes away is the cultural town of Tarragona.
