PGA of Spain Professional, Emilio Cuartero, took the winner’s honours at the 2018 Costa Daurada International Pro-Am with a closing level par 71 at Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community in Spain.
“It’s my fourth year as a Professional but the first time I have won anything…so winning here means a lot as this is where I live and where I practice,” said Cuartero.
“It’s home to me and I know so many people here. I didn’t play overly well and had some damage control holes but I made a lot of birdies over the three days in tough conditions. Having the Pro-Am here at Lumine feels good – to be able to play such a good course and have an amazing week is great.”
Cuartero’s consistent play across the week allowed him to stay ahead of the field by two shots in Round 02 and 03 with a consecutive level pars. Round 03 consisted of three birdies and three bogeys resulting in an overall total of two-over for the event (216).
Tied second position went to a trio of PGA of Sweden Professionals – Jesper Kennegard, Bjorn Pettersson and Joakim Rask. Kennegard had taken a strong lead in Round 01 but a tough second 18 holes brought him back into the pack. A one-over par 72 gave him his four-over, 218 total.
Pettersson was able to go one better, with a closing level par 71, his lowest round of the week, whilst Rask carded the lowest round of the day with a two-under par 69 for his share.
The Team Pro-Am event was won by the PGA of France’s Augustin Dragon and his amateurs, Patrick Ghezali, Sammy Medioni and Ahcene Nouisiri, with a total of 253 points (-37) after a tournament-best 86 points (-14).
Cuartero and his team of Javier Aymat Satue, Luis Angel Perez Gonzalez and Oscar Toribio Garcia, leapfrogged from their starting position of third into second place overall with a closing 84 points (-12) for a total of 241 points (-25), with PGA of France Professional, Eric Colletta and amateurs, Simon Cohen, Pierre Fedrigo, and Michael Paoli, just three points behind in third place on 238 points (-22).
