Chris Gane (PGA of GB&I) captured the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club International Pro-Am, supported by Abu Dhabi Sports Council for the second year in a row, after a closing three-under par 67.
Gane was able to successfully defend his Pro-Am title with a seven-under par total (273) at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club (AESGC), UAE, finishing one shot ahead of fellow GB&I Professional, Alex Wrigley.
Entering the final round two-shots ahead of his fellow Englishman, Gane managed to finish ahead, despite Wrigley’s pressure-adding final round of four-under par (66), adding to his previous win and second place finishes.
“There’s a really good feel about this place, and I picked up from where I left off last year, so I am very happy,” said Gane. “It’s going to be a busy year for me, so it’s nice to kick it off with a win.”
Second place Wrigley who, like Gane, seems to have an affinity with AESGC has won the event once and now finished second on four occasions, whilst Guillaume Watremez (PGA of Belgium) and Mark Reynolds (PGA of Holland) finished with a one-over par total (281) for a share of third place.
In the 54-hole Team Pro-Am event, Team Dooley [pictured above], led by PGA of GB&I Professional, Steve Dooley, together with amateur teammates, Manfred Engstler, Alfred Velharticky, and Claudia Stritecky, claimed the title with a total score of 255 stableford points (-39).
Team Engdahl finished second with 249 points (-33) followed by Team Watremez in third with 244 points (-28).
The one-day Individual Stroke Play amateur tournament saw some great scores as well, and it was the youngest competitor of the tournament, 10-year old Dimitris Halabalakis from Greece, who stole the show with a phenomenal net 59 (-11).
Second place went to Benoit Pierlot with net 63, whilst third went to Yvonne Hausmann, who also finished on seven-under par.
