The PGA of Italy’s Federico Elli continued his dazzling form this year with another commanding score of six-under-par (65), to take the Round 01 lead in Spain.
The inaugural Marbella Pro-Am, presented by travel company Golf Escapes, presents differing challenges compared to most of the Confederation of Professional Golf’s [CPG] sanctioned Pro-Am events, as competitors face continuous course alternation across the week.
This didn’t seem to faze Elli however, who plotted his way around the fast and firm New Course of Atalaya Golf & Country Club superbly, opening up a three-shot margin between himself and his nearest opponent, Francisco Lo Valvo (PGA of Spain).
“It is a golf course that suits me – it is not very long but tricky and you have to hit a lot of irons off the tee and overall I managed to play very solid golf shots” said Elli, who’s recent finishes have included a win in Lithuania and two runner-up finishes in Bulgaria and Greece.
In the team event it was Team Elli – with amateurs Marian Abrashev, Aleksander Abrashev and Francesco Mandracchia – who claimed an early 7-point lead over Team Gedminas (with amateurs Regimantas Barvydas, Tomas Bertulis and Vytautus Pliuskus), with a strong score of 86 points (14-under-par).
