Cohen Climbs Messinia Leaderboard2 min read

Posted on: 24th Feb 2018

The PGA of Israel’s Asaf Cohen has moved into first position 2018 Messinia Pro-Am at Costa Navarino in Greece, after a second round 67 in challenging conditions.

Starting the day in second position, Cohen began in steady fashion with five regulation pars followed by a bogey on the fifth to go out in 37. Five birdies and a single bogey coming back allowed his momentum to gather and close on eight-under (133) for the tournament.

“I did not start out well as I was one over after nine,” said Cohen. “But I started to hit the ball better, made some putts…and I am good with the score. For me it’s been a great tournament so far, playing with great guys, and the condition of the course is so good and I am very happy to be here.”

Overnight leader, Mejow, was not able to capitalise on his early charge, finishing his second round at The Dunes Course at one-over par (72) and two shots from the pace at six-under par (135).

PGA of Greece native, Christos Nikopoulos, continued his steady play, holding third position with a one-under par 69 over The Bay Course at Costa Navarino, for a total of five under (136) for the week.

The two-round Team Pro-Am event was won by the Team of PGA of Great Britain & Ireland Professional, Stuart Boyle, and his amateurs Achilles Constantakopoulos, Georgios Kyvernitis, and Harris Papadopoulos.

A second round 85 points (-13) from the Team, combined with their first round outstanding total of 94 points, gave a total of 179 points (-35) – a huge 15-point win.

Two teams tied for second place, each totalling 164 points (-20) – Gordon Brand Jr (PGA of GB&I) joined by singers Keith Duffy & Brian McFadden from BoyZone and Westlife respectively, along with Scottish Rugby legend, Thom Evans; and Asaf Cohen and his amateurs, Yehuda Levi, Yechzkel Mageh, Ycav Shehhav.

The Final Round will see the culmination of the Individual Professional competition, whilst the Teams will compete in two mini Pro-Am events over The Bay Course and The Dunes Course.
