In collaboration with the Confederation of Professional Golf [CPG], the PGA of Ukraine recently held a three-day seminar – “Parents in Golf and Activators” – for golf coaches and activators, in what was the first education seminar of its kind.

More than 50 participants took part in the seminar, including professional golf coaches, future coaches and activators. The main task of the seminar was to teach such activators, using international experience, various coaching techniques. For example, how to involve people in golf in the city, and not only in golf clubs.

“We plan to hold such seminars annually and involve experts from within these areas”, said Veronika Rastvortseva, Deputy General Secretary of the PGA of Ukraine.

During the seminar international consultant, David Kearney, explained the rules of golf, showed the correct technique for training for beginners and experienced golfers and gave lots of insight into how golf can be made interesting for beginners.

As an introductory course for coaches, it is designed to help those who deliver golf sessions in parks, schools and other places where people can find out about golf and start playing. Longer-term, the PGA is working on coaching programmes at a local university in Ukraine to be able to deliver structured, golf education programmes.

“With Ukraine’s recent announcement as the latest CPG Member Country, the organisation values the need to develop all of its training programmes through internationally-recognised expertise and frameworks, so that they can grow the professional game and the sport more broadly in Ukraine.” said UGF international consultant and CPG representative, David Kearney.

Golf is now integrating into Ukraine’s larger sports in the world of academia. At the university, there will be training in several areas including the theory and methods of training athletes, professional sports and adaptive sports for athletes with special needs.

This training will be provided through Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and a separate program developed by the Ukrainian Golf Federation and the CPG.

“The main goal of this joint work is to increase the coaching staff of golf in Ukraine, and further the quantity and quality of training of athletes” added the dean of the coaching faculty of the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine, Yevhen Honcharenko.

Professionals and their teams from across the globe will join together for what is set to be an incredible golfing opportunity at one of the most exquisite venues in the Middle East – Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Saudi Arabia.

The Pro-Am, which follows directly after the Saudi International 2021, means professionals will not only be competing for the €30,000* prize fund that is available, but also a chance to follow in the footsteps of the world’s best and showcase their own games on the Dave Sampson-designed course that will be in immaculate, tour-standard condition.

Director of Golf at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, Ben Stimson commented: “We are very excited to partner with the CPG in showcasing the inaugural Troon Royal Greens Pro- Am supported by Golf Saudi.

“Having hosted two successful, internationally revered tour events already, now is the perfect time to stage our very own Pro-Am at Royal Greens. When you combine the exciting golf course with what has been recently voted the world’s best golf clubhouse for 2019, then we cannot wait to showcase what is going to be a sensational event to the world.

“We are very proud to be supporting Golf Saudi’s strategy to grow golf in the Kingdom. Creating a Pro-Am for international professionals and amateurs to be a part of will certainly help to grow the tourism segment and the longer-term growth for golf in Saudi Arabia.”

Chief Executive of the CPG, Ian Randell, welcomed the news: “We are incredibly excited to be introducing the Troon Royal Greens Pro-Am supported by Golf Saudi into next year’s tournament schedule.

“Having been fortunate enough to attend and speak at the Golf Saudi Summit last year and to witness first-hand the fantastic Royal Greens Golf & Country Club along with the exciting and ambitious steps that are being taken to develop golf in the Kingdom, this tournament is guaranteed to be a truly fantastic experience for all.

“The Pro-Am sits as part of a wider partnership with Golf Saudi to assist and support them in achieving their vision to not only expose its golf offering to an international audience but also build a well-educated professional and volunteer workforce – with a focus on driving golf’s overall success as a sport in the Kingdom – through the provision of golf development and education expertise.”

The #8thAESGCProAm International Pro-Am, a mainstay on The CPG Championships and Events Schedule, is to be postponed a year to early 2022.

Despite best efforts from both The CPG and Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club [AESGC] to continue with the announced January 2021 dates, it was deemed that the situation surrounding COVID-19 and the resultant travel restrictions that this has created was untenable.

Golf Manager for AESGC, Gavin Chappell, said: “We have taken the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 event due to the current situation we are finding ourselves in. We have been overwhelmed by the response from teams, showing an interest to come and play, and so moving the event to 2022 will allow us to offer everyone the opportunity for a far greater experience.

“I wish everyone all the best for the remainder of this year and 2021 and everyone at the AESGC looks forward to welcoming the players back in January 2022.”

CPG Communications and Event Manager, Tom Bentley, commented: “Whilst we are disappointed that we cannot stage the event in 2021, this decision will allow a bigger and better return of the 8th AESGC International Pro-Am in 2022, and provide teams with greater certainty and clarity to travel and enjoy the amazing hospitality provided by the event”.

Further details of the 2022 dates, alongside packages, event information and entries will be circulated early in 2021. All questions should be forwarded to Tom Bentley at tb@cpg.golf.

The Confederation of Professional Golf [CPG] has released its new five-year strategic plan for the organisation, that will ensure a thriving CPG, a thriving Membership, and a thriving sport.

‘CPG Thrive [cp.golf/cpgthrive]’ will enable a fundamental shift in the philosophy, strategy and activities of the CPG for positive change, development and modernisation of an enlarged and more diverse membership that benefits PGA Members and the game.

Through a new #oneCPG management model, the culture of collaboration and belonging will be fostered, embracing new technologies and capitalising on the reach and expertise of our network who provide a skilled and educated workforce for the game and its players.

On the release of the new strategy, CPG Chairman, Frank Kirsten, commented: “Last year we saw the release of the new name and visual identity to become what is now the Confederation of Professional Golf.

“With an overriding belief that we are stronger together and with greater integration of our membership, explicitly outlining a renewed strategic direction was key to fulfilling the objectives of the organisation. CPG Thrive will deliver that promise, and it clearly represents a new and exciting chapter for the organisation.”

By investing in its Member Countries, in technology and innovation, and in the people that ensure the CPG’s and its stakeholders’ success, CPG Thrive appropriately positions the CPG to effectively achieve its mission, all whilst being continuously underpinned by guiding principles of Togetherness, Collaboration and Development.

The CPG’s role within Ryder Cup Europe as the sole member of the Ryder Cup European Development Trust – the charitable arm that drives and supports national and international grassroots golf projects across Europe – has also been incorporated within this new strategic direction to ensure continued alignment of CPG and RCEDT goals.

CPG Chief Executive, Ian Randell, added: “The launch of the CPG signalled not only a change of name and the opportunity to build upon 30 successful years of development and progress, but also a new dawn for the Association and as such a renewed sense of purpose, desire and strategic direction.

“Capitalising on the collective influence and expertise of our Membership will enable them to work more closely together with increased effectiveness and efficiency, whilst maintaining their independence.

“The creation of new assets, providing a world-leading value proposition to our Member Countries and their individual PGA Members, and investing in the right technologies will ensure not only the CPG and our Members thrive, but we are also able to continue to play and enhance our part in making the sport thrive.”

Technological developments will form the basis for this new investment and development, through the creation of the CPG Digital Platform and its associated services, and the provision of a state-of-the-art Learning Management System to complement a new CPG Knowledge and Development framework.

Accompanying these will be a central golf development framework that provides tailor-made strategic support to individuals, organisations and countries in advancing the development of golf. All of this will be further underpinned by a revamped commercial proposition, business focus and events schedule.
