The PGA of Great Britain & Ireland’s Alex Wrigley got his 5^th Mercedes-Benz International Pro-Am Supported by Abu Dhabi Sports Council campaign underway with an opening three-under par 67.

Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates is a course Wrigley knows well having been runner-up in 2015 and 2016, and winning in the 2017 edition.

“The round was a little bit rusty in parts, but a little bit fortunate as well,” said Wrigley. “I managed to hole a few putts from 10 to 15 feet, but missed a few short ones too.

“But overall I’m really satisfied with the first round and with three more to go hopefully I can keep getting a little bit sharper as I go on.”

Wrigley’s fellow PGA of GB&I Professionals, Chris Gane and Mark Ridley, together with the PGA of Greece’s Henrik Engdahl, each share second place after their one-under par 69s ensured the leader did not get away with too much of an early lead.

The Team Pro-Am event sees the Professionals and their three amateur teammates compete across 54-holes for the team title, and it was GB&I’s Richard Smith and his team of Michael Arnold, Adam Share and Peter Taylor who lead through Round 01 on 86 points (-14).

Just three points behind in tied-second position are the teams lead by quartet of PGA of GB&I Professionals – Steven Munro, Alex Wrigley, Gavin Hall and Chris Gane.
