Having won the previous two editions of the event, British Professional Gane was keen to get his bid for three consecutive titles off to a fast start, crediting some fine iron play and a deaf touch around the greens as the main reasons for such a solid opening score:

“I love coming here every year – the game suits my style well and when you leave behind a cold winter season for the desert heat you always feel a sense of relief and excitement, and it really showed in my performance today” commented Gane.

“The course is very tricky and there are some difficult holes to get through when the wind picks up so hopefully the forecast is good tomorrow and I can continue to play the way I did today.”

Followed closely behind him in second position is Hampus Bergman, who despite this week being his first appearance in an AESGC International Pro-Am, showed no sign of inexperience or nerve, with a tremendous two-under-par score of 68.

In the team event, it was Teams Dooley [with amateurs Manfred Engstler, Alfred Velharticky and Claudia Stritecky] and Bergman [with amateurs Hans Gustavsson, Glenn Adolfson and Arne Ekehed] who took first position, after both shooting 15-under-par rounds (87 Points) in the tough, windy conditions.
