This year’s programme was shaped by Member Countries themselves, with more practical ideas they could take home and put to work for their own members, and more workshops, peer exchange and working group sessions than ever.

ION 54, CPG’s commercial and strategic partner, set out A Connected Global Future for CPG, showing how the planning behind CPG Ventures, CPG’s new commercial arm, will help connect Member Countries and the people who power golf around the world. A day dedicated to AI, led by AI expert, Gabor Szoard, and Golf Genius, then explored how AI and digital tools are set to be one of the defining shifts for the golf profession, and why PGAs and their members need to embrace them now to shape the future of the game rather than be shaped by it.

Glenn Cundari of COACH+ led delegates in Designing the Future of Professional Learning, starting from a blank page to shape learning for the whole golf workforce, from a first job in golf through to leading it. Working groups on the golf workforce, belonging and engagement, and recognition, alongside sessions from Balance Golf and Cookie Jar Golf, completed the programme, and their output will be shared with Member Countries to take forward at national level.

THE ITC AND THE ANNUAL AWARDS

On the course, the PGA of Holland team of Emilio Meijer, Tim van der Steen and Aydan Verdonk won the International Team Championship and the Sandy Jones Trophy, finishing 33 under par at Porto Carras Golf.

The week closed with the Presentation Dinner and the CPG Annual Awards supported by Rolex, recognising people and projects that strengthen the game and develop others through it, with awards presented in the room and virtually online.

From the conference room to the 18th green, it was a week about the people who power golf: sharing ideas across borders, learning from each other and building a community that reaches well beyond the four days in Greece.

Porto Carras Grand Resort welcomed the Festival for the second year running, with the golf played at Porto Carras Golf, an evening of wine tasting at Domaine Porto Carras, and support from AEGEAN Airlines, Official Air Carrier of the Festival, and Olga Karaververis.

THE WEEK

The ITC was played over three rounds during the CPG Festival of Golf, with the best two scores from each team counting each day. The first two rounds were played as a Pro-Am, with Member Country representatives and guests teeing it up alongside the professionals, before the final round was left to the professionals alone.

Their week did not stop at the 18th green. With the Congress held in the mornings and the golf in the afternoons, the ITC players also joined the Festival conference sessions, sitting alongside Member Country leaders and partners for sessions on AI, the future of professional learning and the golf workforce. For a Championship built on bringing professionals together from across CPG’s Member Countries, it was a natural fit.

On the course, Tim van der Steen set the pace. Rounds of 66, 62 and 67 gave him the best individual total of the week at 21 under par, two ahead of Poland’s Mateusz Gradecki, whose closing 61 was the lowest round of the Championship. Aydan Verdonk’s scores counted on both of the final two days, and Emilio Meijer, who came into the side as a reserve, had his opening 67 count on day one.

A prize fund of €8,000 was shared across the field, with €3,000 going to the champions. Katia Avramidou of AEGEAN, Official Air Carrier of the Festival, presented the Sandy Jones Trophy at the Presentation Dinner on the Friday evening.

Tim van der Steen said:

“Every time you win a tournament it’s a nice feeling. It got a little bit tense at the end, but it’s always good to win, and to win with two of my friends. It was a fun week.”

Emilio Meijer said:

“I came in as a reserve on the Order of Merit, so I was very happy and pleased that I got here. And I actually did something for the team as well – one of my scores counted. To do it with two great friends, it was a lot of fun.”

The International Team Championship was played at Porto Carras Golf as part of the CPG Festival of Golf at Porto Carras Grand Resort. CPG thanks Porto Carras and AEGEAN for their support of the players and guests throughout the week.

Norway has produced elite athletes for years from a population smaller than Austria’s. Economic philosopher, entrepreneur and former elite athlete Anders Indset puts this down to a shared mindset, which he describes in his book Wikinger Kodex.

THE PRO-AM EXPERIENCE · 14-15 SEPTEMBER

The week began not with a shotgun start, but with a conversation. On Monday evening, guests gathered on the château terrace for a live Q&A with Nicolas Colsaerts, who took questions on a Ryder Cup career as player and vice captain, and on more than 500 appearances on the DP World Tour. By nine the next morning he was on the range giving the Pro-Am guests a clinic.

The Grand Final Pro-Am followed, amateur teams playing alongside the professionals who would contest the Championship. On the course, a hickory hole hosted by golf historian Iain Forrester invited players to take on the challenge with clubs of the type carried by the first Ryder Cup team of 1927, and in the field was Eli Iserbyt, the Belgian cyclo-cross champion who retired this year and has taken up golf.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP · 16-17 SEPTEMBER

With the guests departed, the Heathland Course was given over to 36 holes of strokeplay between the winners of CPG International Series events and the leading players from the Order of Merit.

Nicolas Winandy settled it almost before it began. The Luxembourg professional opened with a six-under-par 66 – the lowest round of the Championship – and added a second-round 70 in a strengthening wind for a total of 136, eight under par and two clear. It was the first professional title of a career only three months old, and Winandy had spent the Tuesday playing in the Pro-Am.

Vince Van Veen finished second on 138 and Owen Edwards third on 139. A €30,000 prize fund was shared across the field, with every competitor earning from their finishing position and Winandy taking €4,000 alongside the title.

“I had a great week. It was a lot of fun, and the guys I played with in the Pro-Am were great fun as well,” said Winandy. “It is my first win since I turned professional three months ago, so it gives me a lot of confidence.”

One Nicolas opened the week on the château terrace; the other closed it on the 18th green. A tale of two Nicolas – one with a Ryder Cup behind him, the other three months into his professional career.

Grand Final week was staged at Bois d’Arlon Golf & Resort, an outstanding venue and host partner of the CPG International Series Grand Final. CPG is grateful to the team there for their partnership and for the welcome given to players and guests throughout the week.

THE PRO-AM EXPERIENCE

The PGA of Luxembourg professional opened with a six-under-par 66 on Wednesday, the lowest round of the Championship, and added a second-round 70 in a strengthening wind for a 36-hole total of 136, eight under par and two clear of the field. It was the first professional title of a career only three months old.

Vince Van Veen made the strongest charge on Thursday, a closing 68 lifting him four places to finish second on 138, with Owen Edwards third on 139. Belgium’s Maxime Palenik matched the day’s best round of 68 to climb into fourth, and Loris Maquet was the leading amateur.

The Championship brought together the winners of CPG International Series events with the leading players from the Order of Merit, drawn from countries across Europe. A €30,000 prize fund was shared across the field, with every competitor earning from their finishing position and Winandy taking €4,000 alongside the title.

“It was tough out there today. There was a lot of wind, so I just thought about my game plan rather than my score,” said Winandy. “It is my first win since I turned professional three months ago, so it gives me a lot of confidence for the next events – but I have to keep practising and keep grinding.

“Bois d’Arlon is a very tough course, a real championship course. You have to be careful about the pin positions, the slopes on the greens and the wind. Every time you play it in windy conditions you get better.”

Winandy had also played in the Grand Final Pro-Am earlier in the week, which opened with another Nicolas – Nicolas Colsaerts hosting a Q&A and clinic for guests of the Pro-Am Experience. It made for a tale of two Nicolas: one opening the week, the other closing it.

When the first Slovak Championship Open was played in September 2017 on the Heritage Course at Penati Golf Resort, nobody knew what history the tournament would go on to make.

The first winner was Czech professional Petr Nič, who took the title at ten under par and set a new course record in the process. The tournament was played over two rounds for a purse of €10,000.

Every year since has written its own chapter. The winners have changed, so have the format, the prize money, and the ways fans can follow the action out on the course.

One player, ten years

Few stories capture that better than Ondřej Lieser’s. He has been there from the very beginning, and he is one of the players who has shaped the tournament’s history. In 2019 he went toe to toe with Rory Sabbatini in a duel that ran all the way to a play-off on the 18th. A year later he went one better and won, collecting what was then the largest cheque in the tournament’s history at €10,000.

Lieser has stayed loyal to Penati ever since — including in 2025, when he finished a single shot behind champion Adam Puchmelter.

It is stories like these that make the Penati Slovak Open more than just another date on the calendar. Every edition has brought its own name, its own contest and its own memory. But today the tournament’s history is about far more than results alone.

Ten years of getting closer to the fans

The Penati Slovak Open has steadily changed the way it talks to players and to supporters. Online scoring, a livestream and digital media content all followed. The tournament was not interrupted even through the Covid period, and electronic scorecards, online results, start lists and an electronic Hard Card were all introduced. With the help of technology partners Konica Minolta and Orange Business, the broadcast launched on the official YouTube channel and the coverage went global.

For the tenth anniversary, the organisers are keen that the new app is not seen as a piece of technology for its own sake. The aim is simple: gather everything about the tournament in one place and put it as close as possible to the players and the fans.

The app carries tee times, the tournament programme, a live leaderboard, the livestream, news and important notifications.

A player can check their tee time or the latest information before they even arrive at Penati. A fan no longer has to be standing at the 18th to know what is happening out on the course. You do not have to be at Penati to be part of the Penati Slovak Open. All you need is a phone.

From the professionals to the youngest

Perhaps even more telling than the app itself is how the tournament has connected with the next generation.

The Chip & Putt Slovak Open was created in 2022 as part of the golf festival that surrounds Penati Slovak Open week. It is for children under the age of ten and is played on the practice grounds at Penati Golf Resort.

The first winner, in 2022, was Tereza Hájková, ahead of Danny Dědek and Nick Sciranka.

The children’s tournament has found a permanent place in the Penati Slovak Open programme ever since. What began as a one-off has become a tradition, and one of the most enjoyable parts of the whole golf week. On one side of the resort, professionals compete for the title and €10,000; on the other, children who may only just be starting out.

In this anniversary year the two worlds come a little closer together. For the first time, the Chip & Putt will be streamed live — directly through the Penati Slovak Open App.

It may look like a small children’s tournament today. But in a few years it might be worth looking back and saying: “That player started right here.”

Ten years of history — and another chapter ahead

The Penati Slovak Open began in 2017, and every year since has made history: from Petr Nič to Filip Mrůzek, Rory Sabbatini and Ondřej Lieser, through to the most recent champion, Adam Puchmelter.

In 2025 the tournament was played over three rounds for the first time, entered the World Amateur Golf Ranking, and continued as part of the CPG International Series.

The tenth anniversary edition arrives in September 2026, and Rory Sabbatini — the 2019 champion — will be in the field, returning to the scene of that memorable duel with Ondřej Lieser.

With it comes another entry in the record books. The tenth edition. The tenth champion. The largest prize fund in the tournament’s history. And, for the first time, an official mobile app.

The app is not the goal in itself. It is simply another way of bringing the Penati Slovak Open closer to people — to the players who need to know when they tee off, to the fans who want to follow the results, and to everyone who cannot be at Penati but does not want to miss the action.

Motion DNA is the algorithm at the centre of the Balance Golf screening methodology. It works from an individual player’s body and movement data to build the reasoning behind their setup and movement patterns – not assumptions, and not one model applied to every golfer.

Former world no.1 joins line-up of 59 teams from 21 countries

European legend Ian Woosnam was on hand to join in the fun as professionals and amateurs from all over the world gathered at Costa Navarino from June 24-27, to celebrate a landmark edition of the AEGEAN Messinia Pro-Am.

The event provided a moment to reflect on the tournament’s evolution. First established in 2006 as the AEGEAN Airlines Pro-Am, it was inspired by Theodore Vassilakis, founder of AEGEAN, and Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos, founder of Costa Navarino. Hosted at Costa Navarino since 2010, where it has grown alongside the destination, it joined forces with the Messinia Pro-Am in 2022 to form today’s AEGEAN Messinia Pro-Am, reaching its landmark edition in 2026.

Former world number one Woosnam, whose major achievements include winning The Masters in 1991 and captaining Europe to Ryder Cup glory in 2006, joined players from 59 teams representing 21 countries to celebrate the event, in Greece’s southwest Peloponnese. The Welshman was a special guest at the popular 54-hole tournament, which combines world-class golf with the authentic hospitality of Greece. As well as taking part in a ‘Battle of Navarino’ Challenge with compatriot Mark Mouland, Woosnam engaged in an inspiring Q&A session with Sky Sports Golf presenter Kit Alexander.

Woosnam said: “It’s wonderful being here. I’ve been to a lot of places around the world and played a lot in some great destinations, but this is truly one of the best for me. I’ve played all the courses and they are fantastic. I’ve also seen the culture on offer, and I loved what I saw. Everyone is so friendly and, if you are a golfer and want to come on holiday and play golf, this is a great place to come.”

Taking place across three of Costa Navarino’s four 18-hole signature courses — The Dunes Course, The Hills Course and the International Olympic Academy Golf Course — the pro-am was played out against the backdrop of glorious blue skies and the breathtaking seaside landscape of the Messinian region. Featuring a total prize fund of €64,000, the competition for top professional honours was strong as ever with Emanuele Canonica and Alessandro Tadini – both from PGA of Italy – leading the way.

Former European Tour star Canonica held a slender one-stroke advantage going into the final day, but Tadini proved too strong as a closing round of 67 earned him a one-shot win over his compatriot and a record-equalling third victory in the event.

Tadini, who finished on a final score of 16-under-par, said: “I am so happy because it has been a long, long time since I can remember playing so well. The big difference was my putting, and I had amazing feel all week. This pro-am is the biggest one that I know of and I love coming here. The golf courses, the organisation and the people, food and hotels are all amazing. Everything is fantastic and I love this place.”

There was some consolation for Canonica in the team competition, as he and his team amassed a total of 268 Stableford points to win by two points.

During a memorable week, players, friends and their families had the opportunity to relax and unwind away from the fairways by enjoying the revamped accommodation at The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, alongside the destination’s gastronomy, leisure and cultural experiences. They joined an engaging programme of social events, before the tournament was brought to a fitting finale with the prize-giving ceremony.

The event annually attracts an international field of professionals and amateurs, with each team consisting of one professional and three amateurs competing for a range of individual and team prizes. Since the first edition, it has attracted 2,478 players from 39 countries.

Sanctioned by the Confederation of Professional Golf and supported by the Hellenic Golf Federation and the PGA of Greece, the pro-am remains one of the most important tournaments in the destination’s golfing calendar.

The PGA of Italy’s Alessandro Tadini saved his best for a special occasion, closing with a five-under 67 to win the 2026 Aegean Messinia Pro-Am and seal a record-equalling third title at Costa Navarino in Greece.

Tadini began the final day a shot behind his compatriot Emanuele Canonica, but a composed round on The Dunes Course proved decisive, carrying him to 16-under-par and a one-shot win. It is his third victory in the event, after a remarkable 2019 in which he claimed both the Messinia Pro-Am and AEGEAN Airlines Pro-Am titles, and it matches the record of three individual wins set by fellow Italian Nicolo Gaggero.

“I am so happy, because it has been a long, long time since I can remember playing so well,” said Tadini, who earns himself an invitation to the CPG International Series Grand Finale in September at Bois d’Arlon in Belgium.

“The big difference was my putting and I had amazing feel all week. This Pro-Am is the biggest one that I know of and I love coming here. The golf courses, the organisation, the people, the food and the hotels are all amazing.”

Canonica again came agonisingly close. The Italian held a one-stroke lead going into the final round but had to settle for second on 15-under, still in search of a first individual title in the event.

There was consolation in the team competition, where his Team Canonica side – alongside amateurs A. Constantakopoulos, H. Papadopoulos and G. Kyvernitis – posted 268 stableford points to win by two.

This was a landmark edition of the event that has seen Costa Navarino and AEGEAN Airlines collaborate so closely – two decades on from the first staging in 2006, the tournament welcomed former world number one Ian Woosnam as a special guest, who took on compatriot Mark Mouland in a ‘Battle of Navarino’ challenge and sat down for a Q&A with Sky Sports Golf’s Kit Alexander.

The numbers tell the story of how far the event has come. This year’s field of 59 teams from 21 countries added to a total of 2,478 players from 39 countries and over 370 Professionals representing 35 PGAs who have competed since that first edition.

Played across three of Costa Navarino’s signature courses – The Dunes Course, The Hills Course and the International Olympic Academy Golf Course – and backed by a €64,000 prize fund, the event continues to pair world-class golf with the warmth of Greek hospitality.

The Confederation of Professional Golf (CPG) has announced that the 2026 CPG Festival of Golf will return to Porto Carras Grand Resort in Greece from 13–16 October, uniting Member Countries PGA Members, and industry partners for a week that blends competition, collaboration and the continued development of the professional game.

As one of the standout moments in the CPG calendar, the Festival of Golf brings together Member Countries, PGA Members and industry partners from across the global game for a week of connection, collaboration and shared learning.

Blending a conference-style programme with on-course competition, the event features the 37th edition of the historic CPG International Team Championship [ITC], which continues with its refined format aimed at elevating both the competitive edge and the overall team experience with ITC competitors playing alongside Festival delegates and partners.

At its heart, the Festival of Golf is about bringing together the CPG membership to strengthen the community, connect leaders who share the same challenges and ambitions, to uncover new opportunities to strengthen and grow their organisations, learn from each other and external experts, and to leave with practical ideas and resources that can be actioned straight away.

All of this is wrapped into a genuinely memorable experience – from engaging sessions and meaningful conversations to time on the course and the chance to enjoy a world-class setting alongside peers from across the global game.

Alongside the Championship, the wider festival schedule will continue to offer an engaging and inclusive experience for attendees. Plans are in place to introduce new elements to the programme, including the addition of a coaching and education-focused component, aimed at delivering practical insight and added value for PGA Members.

CPG Collection Member Sotogrande offers a compelling case study in how this can be done well. 1. How do The Alto Club and the new Golf Academy reinforce Sotogrande’s positioning as a fully integrated golf and lifestyle destination?

The Alto Club and Golf Academy adds a different element to the golf offering that Sotogrande didn’t necessarily have before: a more relaxed, open, and enjoyable way into the game. It is modern, current, and more casual in spirit.

Sotogrande is already a renowned location as Spain’s hub for world-class golf, and among the best in Europe and globally. That positioning is unquestionable.

What we wanted to do with The Alto Club was complement that existing offer with something fresh and, importantly, something that, from a local community perspective, allows a segment of people who may never have embraced golf to engage with it. As golfers, we all know the barriers to enter the sport. Our aim is to break those barriers and make it easier and more fun for people to take up the game in a relaxed way.

That is particularly relevant for younger generations or children and, without falling into clichés, also for female golfers who are sometimes left out because they didn’t start young or don’t yet have the same level of play as their partners. We want to give them the opportunity to embrace golf in a natural, casual, and fun way.

2. With Suzann Pettersen as Global Ambassador and Mimi Rhodes now on the LPGA Tour, how important is elite performance in shaping Sotogrande’s brand story?

Elite performance has always been woven into the fabric of Sotogrande. It’s not a new chapter we’re adding to the story, it has always been there.

Mimi Rhodes is a perfect example. She grew up here, learned the game here, and developed her talent within this community. Today, at just 24, she’s competing on the LPGA Tour as one of Europe’s most exciting young players. That journey, from local fairways to the world stage, says a great deal about what Sotogrande represents. It shows that this is not only a destination for great golf, but it can be a place where great golfers are formed.

Historically, between Real Club Valderrama, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, and La Reserva Club, Sotogrande has consistently been connected to elite competition, both at professional and amateur level. But what makes it meaningful is that this commitment has never been limited to elite sport in a purely commercial or social sense. It has always been extended to the grassroots.

La Cañada, for example – the oldest public golf course in Spain – is unknown to most on an international level, but this local club that was created through a collaborative effort between the town hall, Sotogrande, and Valderrama to ensure that the local community had access to the game, continues to generate top players in the professional game. Angel Ayora is one of the most recent examples, and this is a powerful reminder that the foundations of excellence are built locally.

Our new academy at The Alto Club, and ambassadors such as Suzann Pettersen alongside Mimi, reinforce that journey from grassroots through to global stage. Elite performance strengthens the brand, of course, but more importantly it reflects our long-standing philosophy to nurture the game at every level.

Golf in Sotogrande is for the future major champion and equally for the 20-handicap player who simply loves the game. That inclusivity alongside quality, is what defines us.

3. What makes Sotogrande and The Alto Club a credible long term training base for touring professionals like Mimi Rhodes?

Sotogrande is not a destination that has appeared overnight. It has been shaped over six decades around the game of golf. That heritage carries weight with touring professionals.

Then there is the quality. When people speak about the south of Spain, there is often a predictable reference to sunshine and climate. Of course, the weather matters, but the sun is just an expectation here. Players who choose Sotogrande are looking for something far more substantial. World-class conditions, year-round consistency, and facilities that genuinely support performance.

In terms of golf courses, I don’t need to say it myself. It’s the rankings and the raters who consistently position the courses within Sotogrande at the very top of Spanish golf. Between La Reserva Club, Real Club Valderrama and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, we have three courses at the very top of the national rankings. That concentration of quality within one destination is extremely rare, anywhere in Europe.

In actual fact, I think that elite golf is increasingly moving in that direction. Professional golfers are travelling more and more with their families, partners and children, and with that there is a requirement for wider resort and lifestyle amenities.

That is also why The Alto Club feels so relevant now. Golfers are not simply looking to hit balls on a range, play 18 holes, and repeat the same, day after day. They want to get more out of their trip, and more from the overall experience. We are seeing more couples and families travelling to golf destinations than ever before.

The traditional image of golf as a male-dominated sport has changed, it is changing, and will continue to change.

The Confederation of Professional Golf [CPG] and Bois d’Arlon Golf & Resort have entered into a new multi-year partnership that will see the Belgian venue become the home of the CPG International Series Grand Final, as well as a designated CPG Centre of Excellence.

The first edition of the Grand Final at Bois d’Arlon will take place from 14 to 17 September 2026, marking the beginning of a long-term collaboration between the two organisations.

Set within the Ardennes, Bois d’Arlon offers 27 holes of championship golf, extensive practice facilities, a 64-room hotel, and a purpose-built environment for hosting elite-level events set around the beautiful Château du Bois d’Arlon. The venue’s infrastructure and ambition make it a natural fit to host CPG’s flagship championship event and support wider activity aligned with player and coach development.

The 2026 Grand Final will feature a 36-hole championship, preceded by a pre-championship Pro-Am. In addition, the week will include a dedicated ‘Pro-Am’ learning experience with a focus on women and coaching, bringing together high-profile female players, coaches, and industry leaders as part of CPG’s commitment to inclusivity and development across the game.

In line with the principles of the CPG International Series, the event will provide a first-class, open, and inclusive playing experience, and is open to both male and female professionals, as well as elite amateurs.

The field will include winners from across the CPG International Series, leading players from the Order of Merit, and representatives from the Royal PGA of Belgium and PGA of Holland, battling it out for a prize fund of €30,000.

Fresh off a standout 2025 season on the Ladies European Tour, Rhodes enters this new chapter having firmly established herself among the elite of European golf and with her sights now set on the world’s most competitive women’s tour.

Competing on the Ladies European Tour, she claimed three victories, earned Rookie of the Year honours, and finished second on the Order of Merit, with performances that paved the way for her successful passage through LPGA Q-Series and entry onto the LPGA Tour.

Łukasz Tomkiewicz, Vice President of the PGA of Poland, has been named the recipient of the CPG 5-Star Professional Award, following his nomination by PGA Polska.

The 5-Star Professional Award recognises PGA Professionals who have excelled across a broad range of roles within the profession, reflecting the diverse skillset required of modern PGA Members. Since its introduction in 1992, the award has honoured individuals whose contributions extend beyond a single discipline, spanning coaching, administration, leadership, education, events, and industry development.

Reacting to the news during the CPG Festival of Golf at Porto Carras Grand Resort  as part of the CPG’s Annual Awards Supported by Rolex, Tomkiewicz was quick to acknowledge the collective effort behind the recognition:

“I’m very proud, but I see this as a great success for the whole PGA of Poland. This award is more for PGA Polska than for me alone,” he said.

A PGA of Poland Member for over a decade, Tomkiewicz has been involved in multiple facets of the golf industry. His roles have included serving as Editor of the PGA of Poland Magazine, organising national PGA tournaments, supporting elite and professional-level competition, and playing a central role in the development of flagship events such as the Road to Rosa Tour and Challenge Tour tournaments hosted in Poland.

One of the clearest examples of Tomkiewicz’s impact has been his role in helping return Challenge Tour golf to Poland after a fifteen-year absence with the GAC Rosa Challenge Tour.

Tomkiewicz played a key role in ensuring the event met the highest organisational and media standards, uniting the Polish golf community behind a shared vision. Its success placed Poland firmly back on the international professional golf map and led to Ministry of Sport funding being awarded to a professional golf event for the first time, with the tournament returning again in 2025.

“There are many different things involved in my work. We organise tournaments, create opportunities for PGA Professionals, and try to involve as many members as possible in our activities,” he explained.

As Vice President of the PGA of Poland, Tomkiewicz has also contributed to strategic leadership, supporting initiatives in disability golf, professional competition pathways, and commercial development to ensure the organisation’s long-term sustainability.

Looking ahead, he highlighted the rapid growth of golf in Poland and the increasing demand for qualified PGA Professionals:

“Golf in Poland is growing very quickly. Last year our PGA Professionals issued around 1,700 green cards, and this year it will be more than 3,000. That means we need many more PGA Professionals in the coming years,” said Tomkiewicz.

Reflecting on advice for the next generation of professionals, he emphasised the importance of continuous learning:

“The most important thing is to develop all the time. Don’t stop after your education – keep learning, keep improving. That’s the way to create better golf and a better life in the profession,” he added.

Tomkiewicz now joins a prestigious international roll of honour of 5-Star Professionals, reflecting both his personal achievements and his significant contribution to the growth and development of the PGA profession in Poland.

Jim van Heuven van Staereling, Director of Education at the PGA of Holland, has been named the recipient of the CPG Special Recognition Award, in recognition of his exceptional and long-standing support of the CPG and his tireless dedication to education and golf development at both national and international level.

The Special Recognition Award acknowledges individuals whose commitment, support and personal contribution have gone above and beyond in advancing the work of the CPG and its Member Countries.

Over several decades, van Heuven van Staereling has played a central role in shaping professional education pathways, supporting PGA Professionals, and fostering collaboration across borders.

Reacting to the news during the CPG Festival of Golf at Porto Carras Grand Resort as part of the CPG’s Annual Awards Supported by Rolex, van Heuven van Staereling admitted the recognition came as a surprise:

“I was really flabbergasted when I received the message. I’m very proud of the award, but for me it’s not the end — I want to go on, because we are just making change,” he said.

Having begun his formal involvement in PGA education in 1997, van Heuven van Staereling initially volunteered his time before becoming Director of Education at the PGA of Holland in 2011, a role he continues to hold today that has since seen him influence every single Professional in the country.

Throughout that journey, he has worked closely with CPG and PGA colleagues across Europe and beyond, helping to modernise education systems and encourage closer cooperation between PGAs, federations and other stakeholders.

van Heuven van Staereling has been one of the CPG’s most trusted and committed contributors, consistently giving his time, expertise and energy to support the organisation’s strategic and educational ambitions. Whether through his leadership within working groups, his involvement in international education initiatives, or his willingness to share best practice across borders, he has played a key role in helping the CPG strengthen its collaborative approach and raise standards across the global PGA network.

“This recognition is not only for me — it’s also for the PGA of Holland and all the countries I’ve worked with. Everything we’ve achieved has been done together,” he added.

A passionate advocate for collaboration, van Heuven van Staereling has consistently championed the evolving role of the PGA Professional — not only as a coach, but as an educator, mentor and guide helping people progress from A to B, both in golf and in life.

“I believe strongly in working together. You cannot help people on your own – progress comes when we share knowledge, support each other and keep learning,” he said.

Trackman has been awarded one of the CPG’s most prestigious honours, the Christer Lindberg Bowl, in recognition of its significant and lasting contribution to the world of golf.

The Christer Lindberg Bowl is presented to individuals or organisations that have demonstrated exceptional influence and service to the game. Trackman’s pioneering technology has fundamentally changed how golf is taught, coached, played, watched, and enjoyed, impacting professionals, facilities, and golfers at every level.

The award, named after CPG’s first Chairman and a leading educationalist, carries a strong legacy linked to learning and development within the profession — an area that aligns closely with Trackman’s long-standing commitment to education.

Accepting the award on behalf of Trackman during the CPG Festival of Golf at Porto Carras Grand Resort as part of the CPG’s Annual Awards Supported by Rolex, Thomas Erik Bosco highlighted the importance of education within the company’s mission:

Panagiotis ‘Takis’ Gonias has been named the recipient of the CPG President’s Award for Golf Development, recognising his outstanding contribution to the promotion and development of golf in Greece, and his long-standing support of the PGA of Greece.

The President’s Award for Golf Development acknowledges individuals or projects that have made a meaningful and sustained impact on growing the game. A PGA of Greece Member since 2008, Gonias has played a unique role in broadening golf’s appeal in the country, drawing on his background as a professional football player and manager to introduce new audiences to the sport.

Accepting the award as part of the CPG Annual Awards Supported by Rolex during the CPG Festival of Golf at Porto Carras Grand Resort in Greece, Gonias reflected on what golf has meant to him since transitioning from football:

“Golf came into my life when I finished football, and it made me very happy. I had fantastic moments and met fantastic people. Only golf can give me this feeling,” said Gonias.

Gonias has been a strong advocate for golf’s crossover appeal, using his profile within Greek and international sport to act as an ambassador for the game. His efforts have included promoting FootGolf in Greece, supporting Pro-Am initiatives, and encouraging athletes from other sports to engage with golf in a fun, accessible way.

“Golf and football have many things in common – you have to train, you have to think. But in golf you are alone, and that builds character and strength,” he added.

Through his involvement with initiatives such as the AEGEAN Airlines Pro-Am and his close alignment with the PGA of Greece, Gonias has helped strengthen relationships between golf, business, and the wider sporting community, contributing to increased visibility and participation.

Reflecting on Gonias’ impact, George Diakou, President of the PGA of Greece, said:

“Takis has been an exceptional ambassador for golf in Greece. His background in professional football gave him a unique platform to introduce new audiences to the game, while his long-term support of the PGA of Greece and key initiatives has delivered real benefits for our members and the wider golf community.”

Gonias also emphasised the importance of enjoyment as a foundation for golf development:

PGA of Spain professional Liam Murray claims popular victory in Greece’s southwest Peloponnese, with next edition to take place from June 24-28, 2026

Championship golf, authentic Messinian hospitality and fairways overlooking the Ionian Sea combined to deliver another memorable week of action on and off the course at the 2025 AEGEAN Messinia Pro-Am – a headline event on the annual sporting calendar at Costa Navarino.

Twenty-seven teams from 14 countries gathered at the sustainably driven destination for the finale to Costa Navarino’s golf season, in the breathtaking setting of Greece’s southwest Peloponnese.

This year’s event took place from November 19-23 across three of Costa Navarino’s four 18-hole signature golf courses – The Dunes Course, The Hills Course and the International Olympic Academy Golf Course. Featuring a total prize fund of €32,000, professionals and amateurs were offered the chance to combine world-class golf with a wealth of unique experiences at the revamped The Westin Resort Costa Navarino.

Sanctioned by the CPG and supported by the Hellenic Golf Federation and the PGA of Greece, the AEGEAN Messinia Pro-Am 2025 attracted players from all over the world, with Spain’s Liam Murray claiming a popular two-stroke victory in the professional competition, which also featured a hole-in-one by Greece’s Dimitros Vlachos on the eighth hole of the International Olympic Academy Golf Course in the second round.

Competition was strong with Spanish PGA Murray scoring a final one-under round of 70 enough to close out victory ahead of his nearest challengers, with Federico Elli (PGA of Italy), Christos Nikopoulos (PGA of Greece), Alessandro Tadini (PGA of Italy) and Matyas Zapletal (PGA of Czech Republic) sharing second place.

Murray said: “It feels fantastic to win. I came close the last two times I was here so to win in this amazing place feels great. I only looked at the leaderboard on 16 after I made par. And then I looked again on 18 and it showed Zapletal had made birdie on 16. So, I realised I needed to make a birdie up the last to have a chance, and I managed to do that.

Q: As part of the academy at Yas Acres, how do you integrate AimPoint into your wider coaching programmes, and why do you feel it adds value for golfers of all levels?

Peter: At Yas Acres, AimPoint is an important part of our overall coaching philosophy. We integrate it within putting sessions, short-game coaching, and even on-course lessons. While it’s traditionally known as a green-reading system for putting, we also apply it to chipping, which gives players a better chance of holing more chip shots.

It provides a clear and measurable system for reading greens and understanding slopes, which fits perfectly with our broader performance coaching. We use TrackMan data for putting and structured practice plans to build consistency, so AimPoint complements that approach beautifully.

I believe it adds tremendous value for golfers of all levels because it takes away one of the game’s most challenging elements, reading greens. Putting accounts for around 40 percent of strokes in a round, even for pros and low handicappers, so AimPoint’s precision and repeatability under pressure help them save key shots. For mid- and high-handicap players, it’s a real confidence-builder. It removes guesswork, helps them learn quickly, and often delivers instant results.

We regularly see players reduce their putts per round by two or three on average, which means lower scores and, just as importantly, more enjoyment, regardless of age or skill level.

Q: Some golfers may see AimPoint as complex or reserved for professionals. How do you make it approachable for beginners or club golfers, and what changes do they tend to notice in their putting once they start using it?

Peter: It’s true that some people assume AimPoint is only for elite players, but the reality is that it’s very straightforward once you understand the basics. We break it down into simple, repeatable steps so it’s accessible to everyone from the start.

For beginners, it begins with learning to feel the slope with their feet, no complicated maths or charts involved. Within a session or two, most realise they can predict breaks with surprising accuracy.

The biggest difference they notice is confidence. They stop guessing and start trusting their reads. That naturally leads to better pace control, fewer three-putts, and a calmer, more focused mindset on the greens.

Q: From your international coaching background to your work at Yas Acres, what role do you see AimPoint playing in helping golfers not just improve their scores, but also enjoy the game more?

Peter: AimPoint brings clarity to putting and transforms how golfers feel on the greens. Wherever I’ve coached around the world, I’ve seen players at every level become more engaged and positive once they understand how to read greens effectively.

At Yas Acres, it’s not just about chasing scores, it’s about helping golfers enjoy the process of learning and performing. When players start to see their putts roll on line and drop more often, their confidence and enjoyment naturally grow. That’s what makes AimPoint such a powerful coaching tool.

Q: You mentioned you’ve had a fascinating journey in golf. Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you came to join the team at Yas Acres?

Peter: I was born into a golfing family, my father and uncle were both golf professionals, and my grandfather was a club maker, so golf was always part of life. I enjoyed it as a kid but only started taking it seriously when I was about sixteen. I qualified as a PGA professional at twenty-one and took my first job at Wensum Valley in Norfolk, where I later became Head Pro. It was a busy 36-hole facility with a great community of golfers.

After that, I moved to Bonmont Golf Club in Barcelona, which had hosted European Tour events, and later to Brussels, where I worked at the Brussels Golf Club Training Academy and then at Houdoncourt, a small club but one of the best training facilities in Belgium. I later joined Brussels Drohme Golf Club before spending two years in southern Spain running a short-game coaching business, working independently across several clubs.

One day, I came across an article by Marc Arnold (Director of Instruction at Viya Golf Golf) titled “From Burnley to Bahrain and Beyond” in The PGA magazine. I messaged him, saying “From Darwen to Brussels and beyond,” as our stories had a lot in common. A few conversations later, we were discussing ideas for the academy, and now here I am. I’ve been at Yas Acres for nine weeks, and it’s already been an eventful start. Let’s just say I’m still getting the hang of Excel.

Q: With so many expats and international players living in the UAE, how do you think your experience working and living in different countries helps you in your role at Yas Acres?

Peter: I think it helps a great deal. Having lived and worked in several countries, I understand how golfers from different backgrounds learn and communicate. I also speak Spanish and French, which has been a big advantage here.

For example, I recently gave a lesson in Spanish to a player from South America and another in French to a Moroccan golfer. Being able to teach in someone’s native language instantly makes the experience more comfortable and personal.

Many of the expat golfers I’ve met so far are British, but the international mix here is fantastic, and having that cultural and linguistic versatility really helps build stronger relationships with players.

Q: You play a key role in supporting the team across three of the UAE’s leading courses: Yas Links, Saadiyat Beach and Yas Acres. How does it feel to be part of such a high-profile portfolio, and what aspects of your work give you the most satisfaction?

Heather: It’s really special to work for these clubs in Abu Dhabi, especially as they continue to grow and have such an impact on the golf scene in the UAE. Of course, being part of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship hosted at Yas Links Abu Dhabi is a huge highlight of the job, seeing the club on a global stage and the best players in the world walking our fairways.

However, for me, seeing our campaigns come to life is always the most satisfying aspect of the job. We spend weeks and months planning content, everything from concept development right through to publishing it across all of our channels, and seeing it go from a storyboard to stunning visuals and storytelling is amazing!

Q: Your role touches on many different areas of marketing and communications. What does a typical day look like for you, and how do you balance working across multiple clubs and projects at once?

Heather: I think most people who work in MarComms would say that there is no such thing as a typical day – which people either love or hate! I like the fact there is always a new campaign to work on, or an announcement from the clubs that we have to communicate.

Due to the seasonal nature of golf, I can plan ahead and know what projects or campaigns need to be running at certain stages of the year, so I can work on the bigger projects in advance and make sure we’re on track for launching them, then that means when new tasks, or photoshoots, or projects with our stakeholders pop up, I can focus on them knowing our core campaigns are organised. I’ve found this the best way to stay on top of things!

Q: Moving from Scotland to the UAE is a big step, both in life and career. What motivated you to take on this challenge, and what have been the biggest highlights of your experience so far?

Heather: It was a huge change, especially the climate!! But I’ve loved every second so far in the UAE, and especially Abu Dhabi. It surprised me how quickly I settled into life here. Working in golf in the UAE is a fantastic way to meet people and such a fun industry to be part of, so I’m glad I made the move.

There are endless highlights of my time here so far, but one thing I really appreciate, and think is unique to working in this part of the world, is how fast-paced everything is. It’s a completely different work environment. People are so passionate and continuously want to do better and be better, and just surrounding myself with this environment pushes me to do the same. Especially at a relatively early stage of my career, I couldn’t be in a better place to learn and grow, on an international scale.

Q: Golf is often seen as male-dominated industry, yet you’ve already made a strong impression early in your career. How have you found this environment, and what advice would you give to other women looking to grow in the industry?

Heather: The golf industry has historically been male-dominated, but I’m encouraged to see real progress in recent years, with more women building successful careers across the sector.

The Viya Golf clubs also have a strong ladies membership and have grown the ladies development programmes at the academy massively over the last few years. This has been a key goal as part of my role, to work on building the women’s golf community through the events at our clubs, and something I’m really proud of.

My advice to women looking to enter or progress in this industry is the same advice I’d give for any career: believe in your skills, trust your knowledge, and don’t hesitate to speak up and contribute your ideas. I’ve often been the only woman in the room, but rather than seeing that as a disadvantage, I’ve found it to be an empowering opportunity to stand out and make an impact.
