This alignment is particularly significant given CPG’s role as Development Partner in Ryder Cup Europe through the vehicle of the Ryder Cup European Development Trust [RCEDT], which is focused on supporting the growth of golf and golfers across Europe.

The renewal forms part of CPG’s ongoing commitment to its CORE pillars – Communities, Opportunities, Resources and Experiences – ensuring that its network continues to benefit from meaningful partnerships that deliver both practical value and long-term impact.

For PGA Professionals, travel is no longer just about organising tee times – it’s about curating experiences that deliver value for players, create lasting relationships, and open up new commercial opportunities. The most successful coaches are those who can blend performance, lifestyle, and connection into something that feels memorable and repeatable.

CPG Collection Member Sotogrande offers a compelling case study in how this can be done well. With its combination of world-class golf, modern academy facilities, wellness, and a broader lifestyle ecosystem, it provides a blueprint for how destinations can support pro-led travel – and how professionals can, in turn, elevate the experiences they offer their clients.

In this conversation, Sotogrande’s Marketing Director, Rita Jordão, shares how the destination has been shaped to support both elite performance and group-based experiences, and what PGA Professionals, clubs and academies can take from its approach to building loyalty, engagement, and long-term value through travel.

1. How do The Alto Club and the new Golf Academy reinforce Sotogrande’s positioning as a fully integrated golf and lifestyle destination?

The Alto Club and Golf Academy adds a different element to the golf offering that Sotogrande didn’t necessarily have before: a more relaxed, open, and enjoyable way into the game. It is modern, current, and more casual in spirit.

Sotogrande is already a renowned location as Spain’s hub for world-class golf, and among the best in Europe and globally. That positioning is unquestionable.

What we wanted to do with The Alto Club was complement that existing offer with something fresh and, importantly, something that, from a local community perspective, allows a segment of people who may never have embraced golf to engage with it. As golfers, we all know the barriers to enter the sport. Our aim is to break those barriers and make it easier and more fun for people to take up the game in a relaxed way.

That is particularly relevant for younger generations or children and, without falling into clichés, also for female golfers who are sometimes left out because they didn’t start young or don’t yet have the same level of play as their partners. We want to give them the opportunity to embrace golf in a natural, casual, and fun way.

2. With Suzann Pettersen as Global Ambassador and Mimi Rhodes now on the LPGA Tour, how important is elite performance in shaping Sotogrande’s brand story?

Elite performance has always been woven into the fabric of Sotogrande. It’s not a new chapter we’re adding to the story, it has always been there.

Mimi Rhodes is a perfect example. She grew up here, learned the game here, and developed her talent within this community. Today, at just 24, she’s competing on the LPGA Tour as one of Europe’s most exciting young players. That journey, from local fairways to the world stage, says a great deal about what Sotogrande represents. It shows that this is not only a destination for great golf, but it can be a place where great golfers are formed.

Historically, between Real Club Valderrama, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, and La Reserva Club, Sotogrande has consistently been connected to elite competition, both at professional and amateur level. But what makes it meaningful is that this commitment has never been limited to elite sport in a purely commercial or social sense. It has always been extended to the grassroots.

La Cañada, for example – the oldest public golf course in Spain – is unknown to most on an international level, but this local club that was created through a collaborative effort between the town hall, Sotogrande, and Valderrama to ensure that the local community had access to the game, continues to generate top players in the professional game. Angel Ayora is one of the most recent examples, and this is a powerful reminder that the foundations of excellence are built locally.

Our new academy at The Alto Club, and ambassadors such as Suzann Pettersen alongside Mimi, reinforce that journey from grassroots through to global stage. Elite performance strengthens the brand, of course, but more importantly it reflects our long-standing philosophy to nurture the game at every level.

Golf in Sotogrande is for the future major champion and equally for the 20-handicap player who simply loves the game. That inclusivity alongside quality, is what defines us.

3. What makes Sotogrande and The Alto Club a credible long term training base for touring professionals like Mimi Rhodes?

Sotogrande is not a destination that has appeared overnight. It has been shaped over six decades around the game of golf. That heritage carries weight with touring professionals.

Then there is the quality. When people speak about the south of Spain, there is often a predictable reference to sunshine and climate. Of course, the weather matters, but the sun is just an expectation here. Players who choose Sotogrande are looking for something far more substantial. World-class conditions, year-round consistency, and facilities that genuinely support performance.

In terms of golf courses, I don’t need to say it myself. It’s the rankings and the raters who consistently position the courses within Sotogrande at the very top of Spanish golf. Between La Reserva Club, Real Club Valderrama and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, we have three courses at the very top of the national rankings. That concentration of quality within one destination is extremely rare, anywhere in Europe.

The practice facilities are equally important. Touring professionals need space, precision, and variety in their training environment, and that infrastructure is embedded here. From short-game areas to performance gyms and recovery facilities.

But what truly differentiates Sotogrande, and The Alto Club in particular, is privacy. Players can step away from the intensity of tour life and focus completely on their preparation. There are no distractions, no interruptions, just the space to work. That same discretion extends beyond the fairways. Many professionals choose to live here and raise their families here because the sense of calm, security, and privacy is consistent throughout the community.

4. How does SO/ Sotogrande Hotel & Spa complement the golf offering for players looking to train, recover or host groups?

All elements that are complimentary of golf are becoming increasingly important not only for professional golfers, but also for amateurs.

Having a top-quality spa and gym as part of the overall offering here is really significant. When you combine the SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort with the 18 holes of The Alto Club, the new Golf Academy, and one of Spain’s top courses, La Reserva Club as a complementary course, there are very few places that can compete. Particularly from a professional perspective and for professional groups.

We are receiving hundreds of requests from professional golfers, as well as from coaches of professionals and elite players, to use Sotogrande as a base. That demand is one of the biggest proofs of the quality that we have to offer.

5. How do you balance Sotogrande’s role as a high-performance golf environment with its appeal as a luxury resort destination?

I see those two elements as very compatible and complementary. A high-performance golf environment does not clash with a resort lifestyle, in fact it’s quite the opposite.

In actual fact, I think that elite golf is increasingly moving in that direction. Professional golfers are travelling more and more with their families, partners and children, and with that there is a requirement for wider resort and lifestyle amenities.

That is also why The Alto Club feels so relevant now. Golfers are not simply looking to hit balls on a range, play 18 holes, and repeat the same, day after day. They want to get more out of their trip, and more from the overall experience. We are seeing more couples and families travelling to golf destinations than ever before.

The traditional image of golf as a male-dominated sport has changed, it is changing, and will continue to change.

Our objective is to offer a product that is genuinely relevant to that evolution, and it is being extremely well received internationally, nationally, and within the local community.

The German Golf Federation (DGV) is strengthening its commitment to growing the game among young people through the expansion of its GolfSixes League — an innovative, team based format inspired by junior pathways common in major global sports.

Launched internationally in 2022 with support from The R&A, The Ryder Cup European Development Trust, the DP World Tour and the Ladies European Tour, the programme has quickly gained national recognition for its fun, inclusive and low pressure approach to competitive golf.

Germany’s golf system is structured regionally, and the DGV has strategically positioned GolfSixes League as an entry point for clubs not currently involved in existing junior programmes. This approach has enabled the federation to reach new communities and introduce golf to a wider and more diverse group of young players.

By 2025, the initiative had grown to 37 participating clubs, engaging around 500 juniors across local leagues. The DGV also staged a dedicated GolfSixes League event during the 2025 German Challenge by VcG on the Hotelplanner Tour, which proved highly popular with young participants and showcased the format to a broader audience.

Building on this momentum, the DGV aims to expand the programme to 40 clubs in 2026. A major step forward will be the integration of GolfSixes formats into schools participating in the Abschlag Schule programme, which reaches approximately 10,000 children and teenagers aged 6 to 18. From 2027, both the on course GolfSixes League and the off-course GolfSixes Mini League are set to be introduced in schools, creating a clear and accessible pathway from first contact with golf to structured team play.

The DGV reports that up to 200 clubs across the country have expressed interest in running junior initiatives such as GolfSixes League, signalling strong potential for nationwide expansion.

As Germany continues to modernise its junior golf landscape, GolfSixes League is emerging as a central pillar of the country’s long term strategy to make golf more accessible, social and appealing to the next generation of players.

……………

GolfSixes League is a development project designed to enable participants who are new to golf to learn, play and progress through short-form team golf. It is a collaborative initiative driven by The R&A, Ryder Cup European Development Trust [RCEDT], Confederation of Professional Golf [CPG], Ladies European Tour [LET], DP World Tour and national partners. The expansion of GolfSixes League is backed by the Golf Foundation, the charity that created and developed the initiative across GB&I.

With outdoor courses packed during the short summer season, Golfsambands Island (GSI) has identified the off season as a opportunity for growing and sustaining junior interest.

To put this into action, the federation has introduced a winter GolfSixes League, played entirely on simulators, using the GolfSixes League’s proven format of team-golf playing two person scramble over six holes.

This year’s GolfSixes League opened on 28 February with three more events taking place across Iceland this winter. The initiative forms part of the international expansion of GolfSixes League, supported by The R&A, The Ryder Cup European Development Trust, the Confederation of Professional Golf, the Golf Foundation, DP World Tour and the Ladies European Tour.

Participation on the Rise

A total of 42 juniors took part – significantly more than last year – competing in six teams across boys’ and girls’ divisions. Each team featured 6–8 players, all receiving colour coded caps, along with bottles, sports bags and GolfSixes League branded bag tags.
The event delivered impressive play, including two holes in one and several chip ins, adding excitement to the fast paced format.

Strong Support and a Celebratory Finish

Five PGA professionals assisted throughout the competition, helping guide players who are taking their first steps into competitive golf.

The day concluded with a Kahoot quiz, an awards ceremony and a pizza party, reinforcing the League’s emphasis on fun, friendship and confidence building.

The Czech Golf Federation has strengthened its drive to grow junior participation by rolling out the GolfSixes Mini League, an inclusive six hole team format designed for children and played with adapted clubs and balls suitable for school fields and sports halls.

Working closely with golf clubs across the country, the federation has helped establish strong links between clubs and nearby schools. Club coaches have trained teachers to run GolfSixes Mini League sessions and short game challenges, culminating in a national Mini League final for participating schools.

Schools that extend the experience by offering pupils opportunities to play at local golf clubs are also invited to take part in the federation’s annual GolfSixes League event.

The 2025 season delivered impressive results, with 500 children taking part in the GolfSixes Mini League and a further 50 pupils competing in the national schools’ GolfSixes League event. Building on this momentum, the federation now plans to expand the GolfSixes League in 2026 by welcoming international teams for the first time.

The continued success of the programme highlights the growing appetite for fun, accessible golf formats that introduce more children to the sport and strengthen pathways into club participation.

On 1 February 2026, GolfRSA hosted a GolfSixes League event for beginner golfers at Royal Johannesburg Golf Club as an activation alongside the Africa Amateur Championship, staged by The R&A at the same venue.

The initiative was designed specifically to introduce new players to the game in a welcoming and enjoyable environment during championship week.

The Texas Scramble format proved to be a highlight of the day, allowing participants to play alongside friends in a relaxed, team-based setting. For some of the kids, it was their very first time on a golf course. Parents were actively involved throughout the round, assisting with scoring, carrying bags, and walking the fairways, with many describing the experience as valuable bonding time with their children.

Last year, GolfRSA delivered 21 GolfSixes events and activations across South Africa, demonstrating strong and growing interest in the format. GolfSixes continues to play an important role in reducing the intimidation factor often associated with the sport, helping to remove barriers to entry and making golf more accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for young beginner golfers.

Fresh off a standout 2025 season on the Ladies European Tour, Rhodes enters this new chapter having firmly established herself among the elite of European golf and with her sights now set on the world’s most competitive women’s tour.

Competing on the Ladies European Tour, she claimed three victories, earned Rookie of the Year honours, and finished second on the Order of Merit, with performances that paved the way for her successful passage through LPGA Q-Series and entry onto the LPGA Tour.

“Coming back to Sotogrande at this moment in my career feels incredibly special. It doesn’t feel like the start of something new, but rather a continuation of the journey that began here” she explains. Long before titles and international recognition, Sotogrande was the place where Mimi grew up, found her sense of home, and spent the most formative years of her life. Today, as she reaches the most exciting phase of her professional career, those early years in Sotogrande remain deeply woven into the amazing player she has become.

As official touring professional ambassador for Sotogrande, Rhodes continues to return regularly to the estate for ongoing training and preparation at The Alto Club and new Golf Academy, both part of the SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort.

Together, these facilities offer a practical training base for professional golfers, alongside Toptracer technology providing clear feedback on ball flight and shot data to support focused, repeatable practice. Blending elite training with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, recovery and balance, Sotogrande provides an environment that supports sustained excellence at the highest level of the game.

Reflecting on her journey, Rhodes added: “Sotogrande has always felt like home to me. I grew up here, practising, learning and developing as both a golfer and a person. To be able to come back now, and prepare here for the move to the LPGA Tour, is incredibly special. It’s an environment that gives me everything I need to perform, but also to reset and stay grounded.”

Rita Jordão, Director of Marketing at Sotogrande SA, commented: “We are deeply proud to see Mimi’s journey come full circle in Sotogrande. Her personal connection to the estate makes this relationship incredibly special to us. Mimi embodies the spirit and values of Sotogrande, and we are honoured to support her as she steps into an exciting new chapter on the international stage.”

GolfSixes League continues its rapid rise in Poland, with the Polish Golf Union reporting that both the GolfSixes League and the newly launched GolfSixes Mini League had their strongest season to date.

Across the 2025 GolfSixes League, seven tournaments were staged nationwide, attracting 149 young players representing 12 teams. A new individual registration system enabled parents to enter children directly, allowing organisers to broaden access to the series.

Each event featured unique medals and branded golf balls, helping create a fun, motivating atmosphere for young beginners. The standout stop on the calendar was Kraków Valley, where 30 juniors competed despite cold, rainy conditions.

The GolfSixes Mini League made its debut this year and exceeded all expectations. Supported by equipment from the international project, weekly school sessions led to a June tournament with 28 participants, while PGA Poland’s requirement for assistant coaches to host Mini League events helped drive national uptake.

In total, eight Mini League tournaments were held, drawing 161 children – far surpassing the initial target of 100 participants. All events were free to enter, and every child received a participation medal.

With both formats expanding rapidly, GolfSixes is now reaching more children and more facilities across Poland than ever before, strengthening the country’s junior golf pathway and building a vibrant foundation for the future of the sport.

With 750 registered juniors at Polish golf clubs, the 286 GolfSixes players will have a big positive impact on Polish junior golf.

As golf professionals increasingly look beyond traditional coaching trips, destinations that combine training, lifestyle, wellness, and family appeal are becoming ever more important.

In the latest episode of The Spin Podcast, we sat down with Stéphane Menou, General Manager of SO/ Sotogrande and The Alto Club, to explore how golf travel is evolving — and what PGA Professionals can do to make the most of it.

With over 30 years of international experience managing resorts across the world, Menou brings a refreshingly practical perspective. His message is clear: golf travel works best when it delivers a complete experience, not just tee times and practice sessions.

At SO/ Sotogrande, that philosophy is reflected in what Menou repeatedly describes as a “360° offer” – blending elite golf facilities, a modern academy environment, wellness, gastronomy, and family-friendly amenities into one destination. For golf professionals hosting trips, this creates far more flexibility: coaching-focused mornings, relaxed afternoons, wellness-led recovery, and social evenings that appeal to both players and non-golfing companions.

A key development is the newly rebranded Alto Club Golf Academy, led by Suzann Pettersen, alongside the purpose-built Pro Zone Training Centre. Rather than positioning this as an elite-only space, Menou is clear that the goal is accessibility – supporting touring professionals, national teams, club golfers, juniors, and families alike. Par-3 golf, night-time practice using Toptracer technology, and flexible group capacity allow coaches to design trips that balance performance and enjoyment.

Crucially for PGA Professionals, Menou highlights that great destinations are built with pros in mind. Coaches act as trusted filters for players and clients; if they believe in the product, the destination gains credibility. That’s why SO/ Sotogrande has invested heavily in facilities that professionals can genuinely use – from structured training environments and fitting areas to recovery tools, wellness services, and adaptable programming.

Towards the end of the conversation, Menou offers perhaps the most valuable takeaway for coaches planning trips: don’t underuse the destination. Encourage players to bring family, explore nearby courses, enjoy the lifestyle elements, and see the trip as more than just a golf camp. This not only increases satisfaction, but also strengthens repeat business and word-of-mouth recommendations.

With year-round accessibility, strong transport links, and a dense cluster of world-class courses nearby, SO/ Sotogrande and The Alto Club are positioning themselves as a reference point for modern golf travel – one that aligns performance, wellbeing, and commercial opportunity.

Great coaching isn’t about having more answers – it’s about asking better questions. Over time, the most effective coaches tend to converge on the same realisation: players don’t fail because of a lack of technique, but because systems, environments, and development pathways don’t truly fit the individual.

Joe Brazil’s coaching journey spans more than 30 years, four continents, and every level of the game – from grassroots juniors to elite international pathways. Now a PGA Advanced Professional at Yas Acres within the Viya Golf Performance Institute at CPG Collection Member, Yas Links Abu Dhabi, Joe brings a perspective shaped not by trends or quick fixes, but by repeated exposure to what actually holds up under pressure, across cultures, climates, and competitive contexts.

This Q&A explores the practical lessons that emerge when coaching is viewed as a long-term development process rather than a short-term intervention. From junior pathways and women’s participation to cultural adaptability and sustainable performance models, Joe’s insights offer a useful case study for PGA Professionals looking to build programmes and coaching businesses that endure.

……………………………………..

Your coaching career spans more than three decades and four continents. How have those global experiences shaped your coaching philosophy, and what do you bring from them into your work at Yas Acres today?

JB – Wow – three decades really have flown by!

Having spent more than 30 years coaching across four continents, I’ve learned that elite golf performance is never a one-size-fits-all approach.

Early in my career, I focused heavily on technique. However, working at the highest levels taught me that lasting improvement comes from understanding the individual player – their movement patterns, decision-making, competitive demands, and mindset under pressure. My global experience sharpened my ability to adapt and read people. Different cultures, communication styles, and learning approaches all influence performance. In an individual sport like golf, trust and clarity between coach and player are essential, and I found that strong relationships are particularly important for success in Asia.

I believe sustainable performance is built on strong fundamentals, efficient movement, and repeatable processes – not short-term fixes. I’ve seen technology advance significantly over the years, and while data is a valuable tool, it is most effective when aligned with feel, intent and competitive context.

In my role at Yas Acres as a PGA Advanced Professional, I work with players of all nationalities, cultures, and abilities. That global experience fits perfectly here in the UAE, and we’re fortunate to have a very passionate and dedicated team at Yas Acres.

You’ve worked closely with junior golfers throughout your career – from HSBC Wee Wonders in the UK to elite development pathways in South Korea and the USA. Why is junior and long-term player development so important to the future of the game, and how is that reflected in the programmes at the Viya Golf Performance Institute?

JB – I’ve worked closely with junior golfers since turning professional in 1993. I was Head Coach for HSBC Wee Wonders when players such as Tommy Fleetwood, Charley Hull, and Tyrrell Hatton were competing in the Wee Wonders British Championships. Coaching juniors has always been a passion of mine.

Developing elite juniors for success in collegiate golf was a dream role for me in the USA, where I spent three years as Director of Instruction at an elite junior academy on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. During that time, we helped players progress to collegiate golf – one being Ewen Ferguson, who has since gone on to achieve great success on the DP World Tour.

Junior golf is essential to the future of the game. It develops not only skilled players, but also the values that define golf – discipline, integrity, resilience, and respect. At the Yas Acres Junior Golf Programme, our focus is on long-term development rather than short-term results. We teach sound fundamentals and athletic movement in a positive, fun, and age-appropriate environment. Just as importantly, we help juniors build confidence, independence, and a genuine love for the game.

By developing players first and golfers second, the Viya Golf Performance Institute at Yas Acres is helping to grow the game and build a strong future for golf – one swing at a time.

Since returning to Abu Dhabi and joining Yas Acres, what excites you most about the opportunity here – both in terms of coaching and the wider golf ecosystem being built in the UAE?

JB – After spending the last five winters coaching at Europe’s busiest academy in London with N1 Golf, I was very excited to return to year-round sunshine in Abu Dhabi. I love my job, but after ten hours of coaching with cold feet, the climate was definitely a big factor!

I was also excited to work again alongside Karl Whitehead, our Cluster General Manager for Viya Golf, who is truly moving the needle here in Abu Dhabi.

Golf is booming in the UAE, and what excites me most about Yas Acres is the opportunity to be part of a club that values people, development and community just as much as performance. With world-class practice facilities, Yas Acres is an outstanding place to coach and develop golfers from around the world.

The wider Abu Dhabi golf ecosystem is ambitious, connected, and future-focused. There is a clear commitment to growing the game, developing talent and creating pathways for the next generation. Being part of an environment that invests in the future of golf while maintaining high standards today is genuinely inspiring.

Women’s participation in golf continues to grow, and Viya places a strong emphasis on creating inclusive pathways for female players. From your experience as a coach, how important is it to actively support women in the game, and how is that reflected in the programmes and culture at Yas Acres?

JB – Women’s participation in golf continues to rise, and Viya is leading the way by creating inclusive pathways that give female players every opportunity to thrive.

At Yas Acres, this is reflected in our ladies’ development programmes and Ladies Golf Coffee Mornings, where I encourage, support, and challenge women to reach their full potential in a fun and social environment. Together, we’re not only growing participation, we’re helping to shape the future of women’s golf in the UAE.

EDGA (European Disabled Golf Association) is proud to announce the release of its latest film project, You Can, a powerful 30-minute documentary that showcases the transformative impact of golf for individuals with disability around the world.

Building on the success of previous acclaimed projects such as Mulligan and Living Our Best Lives, You Can is the next stage in EDGA’s mission to promote genuine inclusion through honest storytelling. The film is supported by The R&A and narrated by multiple major champion Pádraig Harrington, a long-time supporter of The R&A.

Filmed across several countries, You Can celebrates the diversity of the global G4D (Golf for the Disabled) community. Among those featured are:

Issa Nlareb, a double-leg amputee from Cameroon

Chris Willis, a Canadian golfer born with VACTERL syndrome and a rare association of birth impairments

Torbjörn Svensson, a blind and deaf golfer from Sweden

Melody Roccaz, a seated golfer from France.

Together, their stories highlight not only the diversity of disability, but also the rich tapestry of gender, race, nationality, and personal experience—all unified by the joy, freedom, and empowerment found in golf.

Tony Bennett, President of EDGA, said: “This film is a statement of possibility. It’s not just about golf, it’s about showing people what they can do, who they can become, and how sport can unlock confidence, community, and opportunity. We believe it will inspire more people with disability to pick up a club and take that first swing.”

EDGA’s wider You Can campaign aims to be both highly encouraging and also practical, to empower viewers through the knowledge of how to get involved, whether through local golf programmes, national federations, or the growing number of G4D events across the world.

Pádraig Harrington added: “Four amazing people, and four amazing stories. Their message to you: you can play golf. I hope they’ve inspired you to take up this wonderful sport.”

EDGA internal teams created the film alongside Big Bounce Productions. It will be broadcast on Sky Sports on December 3, at 7.30pm, with additional international airings planned. The film will be available on EDGA’s website and social media channels, providing a valuable tool for golf clubs, coaches, educators, and advocates to help spread awareness and opportunity.

As the world’s golfing spotlight turned to Yas Island for last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, CPG Collection Member, Yas Links Abu Dhabi, has retained its position as the number one course in the Middle East in the latest Top100GolfCourses.com ranking.

The latest update sees multiple Viya venues perform exceptionally well across the board. Yas Acres Golf & Country Club has entered the Top 20 in the Middle East for the first time, debuting at #18 – a particularly notable achievement for this exceptional nine-hole course. The Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates and The Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club have also moved up to positions #4 and #5 respectively, further strengthening the region’s reputation for world-class golf. Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club has also risen three places, now ranking #7.

“This recognition reflects the incredible depth and quality of golf we have across the UAE and wider region,” said Christopher May, Chief Executive Officer at Viya. “For Yas Links to remain the Middle East’s #1 course is something we are extremely proud of. It also highlights the strength of our wider portfolio in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and the continued investment and commitment to excellence across all Viya venues.”

Designed by Kyle Phillips and set along the coastline of the world-famous Yas Island, Yas Links Abu Dhabi is renowned for its traditional links-style layout, spectacular sea views, and championship-level conditioning. The course is home to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, a Rolex Series event and one of two playoff tournaments at the climax of the DP World Tour season, attracting many of the world’s leading players.

The latest ranking results further reinforce the Emirate’s growing reputation as a leading global golf destination and highlight the strength of the Viya portfolio, which continues to invest in innovation, sustainability, and exceptional guest experiences across its clubs and destinations.

EDGA (European Disabled Golf Association) will proudly unveil its new campaign, “You Can”, at this week’s EDGA Annual Assembly and Workshops in Portugal.

“You Can” seeks to encourage brand new golfers with a disability through the shared personal experiences of established players. Their highly positive messages and stories aim to ignite the imagination of others to join in and try the game.

While “You Can” is all about putting each golfer first, inspiring each individual to dream, it enhances EDGA’s mission to make golf truly inclusive for people with a disability.

The campaign launch coincides with the EDGA Algarve Open at Pestana Vila Sol and the organisation’s 25th anniversary celebrations. During the event, a new EDGA book will be seen for the first time – called Changing Lives – that tracks the evolution and key milestones of EDGA, while players will be presented with a memento to commemorate a quarter of a century and the launch of “You Can”.

Now live across EDGA’s digital touch-points and rolling out through member countries (EDGA advises and supports 50 national golf federations), the “You Can” campaign is designed to empower individuals with disability to see golf as a sport where they truly belong. Its central message, “You Can Play Golf”, is supported by three powerful themes: Make Friends, Compete, and Improve Health. Together, these emotive messages reflect the broader impact of golf beyond the course.

“With ‘You Can’, we’re flipping the script,” said Scott Bennett, Head of Marketing at EDGA. “This isn’t about inclusion as an afterthought, it’s about representation that feels real, powerful, and personal. Golf can offer confidence, health, community, and competition, and this campaign reflects exactly that. We wanted to make sure this project speaks to people with disabilities, not just about them.”

The EDGA team feels that unlike many sports campaigns in which disability is added almost as a side note, “You Can” was built by, and for, the G4D (Golf for the Disabled) community.

Crucially, every image, message, and story is drawn from real players and their lived experiences. It highlights the diversity of disability, not just the most commonly represented, and brings to life the barriers, breakthroughs, and benefits that only those with first-hand experience can truly articulate.

Rita Sampaio, the designer who created the campaign for EDGA pro bono, said: “The concept behind this campaign is ability, regardless of the limitations each person may have. The focus is on the player and their skill in the game of golf. ‘You Can’ is a message of empowerment, an invitation for more people with disabilities to experience this inclusive sport. We want every person with a disability to see it and think, ‘Yes, I can do that too.’ Everyone featured is a real golfer, with a true story. That’s what gives the campaign its strength.”

With QR codes on all materials linking to deeper content: videos, interviews, and written stories, “You Can” encourages confident participation through honest storytelling. The campaign is designed to reach future players where it matters most: including in rehabilitation centres, hospitals, and community spaces. And thanks to its adaptable branding, member countries can tailor the messaging while staying aligned to a unified, global movement.

The “You Can” materials are now integrated into the EDGA 8-Stage Programme, which is supported by The R&A and explores: getting started; locations (assisting venues); the workforce; communication; encouraging new and regular players; competitions and events; professional coaching education; and legacy.

Through this programme, EDGA aims to support the growth and capacity of national federations as they work to attract individuals with a disability to the game of golf.

Golf Genius, the leading provider of cloud-hosted golf software solutions, has launched an enhanced version of its mobile Club App, providing golf clubs and their members with a faster, more intuitive and fully customisable mobile experience.

Developed around the principle: “your club, your app”, the latest release gives every golf club the flexibility to shape its own digital environment. The fully white-labelled structure allows each club to connect the systems and features that matter most to them, whilst also tailoring the navigation and visual experience for members with their branding and chosen menu items.

From tournament management and competition tee-time bookings to websites, club diaries and member documents, the app’s configurable menu can link directly to third-party platforms, creating a single, central hub for communication and activity. This allows members to find everything they need in one place while giving clubs the flexibility to integrate their preferred systems and partners. It also supports Golf Genius’ ‘best-in-breed’ philosophy, which encourages clubs to choose the right software for each area of their operation while maintaining complete control over their digital presence.

“We’ve listened closely to our customers, and their input has been central to this release,” said Craig Higgs, Managing Director, Golf Genius – International. “Every club operates differently, and the new Club App gives them the freedom to design an experience that reflects their individual identity and priorities whilst remaining clean, reliable and distraction-free for members to enjoy a focused and seamless digital experience.”

The new design focuses on simplicity, speed and usability, introducing clean layouts and smoother navigation across devices. The update also refines the member experience, helping golfers move quickly between competitions, leaderboards, results, news and other services, while keeping club information instantly accessible.

Feedback from club managers and members played a key role throughout development. Clubs asked for more flexibility in how menus, pages and links are structured, together with faster access to the features most frequently used by members. These insights guided the redesign and helped ensure the app remains both powerful and easy to use.

“Our goal has always been to empower clubs with technology that supports how they want to work,” added Higgs. “This release reflects that philosophy by putting design, functionality and control directly in the club’s hands, helping them deliver a digital experience that feels genuinely their own.”

Golf Genius will showcase the new Club App at the GCMA Conference (16–18 November), where the team will demonstrate how clubs can use the platform to unify their digital services and strengthen member engagement. Delegates will have the opportunity to explore the latest functionality, see live demonstrations and discuss how the app can be adapted to meet the needs of their own clubs.

In Golf World’s definitive Top 100 European Courses – published in early November – Sotogrande’s venues continue to impress, with two of the three courses featured climbing higher in the standings.

Real Club Sotogrande rises to #10, strengthening its position among Europe’s elite; La Reserva Club advances to #52, an impressive result despite several major new entries to this year’s list; and Real Club Valderrama remains a benchmark of European championship golf pedigree at #6 in the list.

Golf World’s accompanying supplement ranks Sotogrande among Europe’s most exceptional golf destinations. La Reserva Club, which climbs in this year’s ranking, is praised for Cabell B. Robinson’s design that “makes superb use of its hillside terrain” and is “presented to an exceptional standard.” Meanwhile, Real Club Sotogrande secures its place in Europe’s top ten as a “Robert Trent Jones Snr classic presented immaculately,” recognised for delivering an “enduringly high-calibre experience.”

Sotogrande’s collective strength is further endorsed by National Club Golfer’s European Top 100 Resorts list, where the destination holds firm at #3, retaining its title as the highest-ranked golf resort in Spain. The upcoming edition again celebrates Sotogrande’s exceptional blend of world-class golf, Andalusian lifestyle, and timeless appeal.

“These latest rankings confirm Sotogrande’s enduring appeal as Europe’s leading golf destination,” said Rita Jordão, Director of Marketing for Sotogrande SA. “We are proud of the continued recognition across our courses in Sotogrande, particularly for La Reserva Club, which embodies the evolution of the Sotogrande experience: elegant, contemporary, and uncompromising in quality.”

As the world’s top golfers descend on Yas Links for the DP World Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the iconic venue today announces the launch of the Tommy Fleetwood Academy (TFA) – marking a new era for player development in the UAE capital.

Following the recent significant upgrade of its state-of-the-art training facilities, the academy will now operate fully under the Tommy Fleetwood Academy brand, expanding the partnership between Viya and one of the sport’s most admired figures. The launch cements Yas Links Abu Dhabi’s position as a centre of excellence for golf performance and education in the region.

The opening of the Tommy Fleetwood Academy at Yas Links Abu Dhabi brings TFA’s proven player-development philosophy to the UAE capital for the first time. The new facility complements the existing TFA location at Jumeirah Golf Estates, creating a connected performance network across the Viya portfolio.

Tommy Fleetwood, Professional Golfer and Founder of the Tommy Fleetwood Academy, said: “The UAE has always felt like a second home for me and my family. We’ve built something truly special with the academy in Dubai, and it just keeps growing. To now be building in Abu Dhabi and giving something back to the region that has given us so much means a lot to us.”
Golfers at Yas Links will benefit from cutting-edge coaching technology and an elite-level performance environment, including two swing studios with advanced simulators, a dedicated indoor putting studio, and world-class training systems such as PLATFORM Golf, Trackman, Swing Catalyst, and Sam PuttLab.

The move follows a major upgrade completed earlier this year, which positioned the Yas Links’ practice facilities among the most advanced in the Middle East. The relaunch under the TFA brand now brings Fleetwood’s signature approach to player development to Abu Dhabi, combining elite insight, data-led performance tools, and a passion for growing the game at every level.

Karl Whitehead, Cluster Manager at Viya Golf, commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Tommy Fleetwood Academy to Yas Links. Abu Dhabi continues to play a leading role in growing the game, and this partnership elevates that vision even further. TFA brings world-class expertise, technology, and inspiration to golfers across the capital.”

Christopher May, Chief Executive Officer of Viya Golf, added: “Viya is committed to offering the best golf and leisure experiences across the UAE. The Tommy Fleetwood Academy represents excellence, professionalism, and a passion for player development – values we share across our venues. With the TFA now operating at both Yas Links and Jumeirah Golf Estates, we’re proud to offer golfers two of the finest coaching destinations in the region.”

Marc Arnold, Director of Instruction at Viya, said: “We’re proud to welcome the Tommy Fleetwood Golf Academy to Yas Links Abu Dhabi. This partnership reflects our commitment to world-class coaching and to growing the game across the UAE. Being associated with Tommy’s name and legacy is a privilege, and we’re excited about the impact this will have in further enhancing our programmes and inspiring more people to play.”

The launch of the Tommy Fleetwood Academy at Yas Links Abu Dhabi comes amid rising participation across the emirate, supported by expanded junior and ladies’ programmes and the club’s largest-ever team of PGA professionals.

As the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship showcases the venue on the global stage, the new academy underscores Viya’s mission to make golf more accessible, inclusive, and performance-driven throughout the Middle East.

For PGA Professional Peter Bacon, joining the Yas Acres Golf & Country Club Academy has been the latest chapter in a diverse international career that has taken him from the UK to Spain, Belgium, and now the UAE.

As part of the Viya Golf coaching team in Abu Dhabi, Peter brings a wealth of experience shaped by years of teaching golfers from all walks of life — from beginners finding their rhythm to tour-level players fine-tuning performance. His approach blends structure and simplicity, and his use of systems like AimPoint reflects his commitment to helping players understand, trust, and enjoy their own process.

In this conversation, Peter shares how he integrates performance systems into his coaching at Yas Acres, what he’s learned from teaching around the world, and how that experience helps him connect with an increasingly international community of golfers in the UAE.

…………………….

Q: As part of the academy at Yas Acres, how do you integrate AimPoint into your wider coaching programmes, and why do you feel it adds value for golfers of all levels?

Peter: At Yas Acres, AimPoint is an important part of our overall coaching philosophy. We integrate it within putting sessions, short-game coaching, and even on-course lessons. While it’s traditionally known as a green-reading system for putting, we also apply it to chipping, which gives players a better chance of holing more chip shots.

It provides a clear and measurable system for reading greens and understanding slopes, which fits perfectly with our broader performance coaching. We use TrackMan data for putting and structured practice plans to build consistency, so AimPoint complements that approach beautifully.

I believe it adds tremendous value for golfers of all levels because it takes away one of the game’s most challenging elements, reading greens. Putting accounts for around 40 percent of strokes in a round, even for pros and low handicappers, so AimPoint’s precision and repeatability under pressure help them save key shots. For mid- and high-handicap players, it’s a real confidence-builder. It removes guesswork, helps them learn quickly, and often delivers instant results.

We regularly see players reduce their putts per round by two or three on average, which means lower scores and, just as importantly, more enjoyment, regardless of age or skill level.

Q: Some golfers may see AimPoint as complex or reserved for professionals. How do you make it approachable for beginners or club golfers, and what changes do they tend to notice in their putting once they start using it?

Peter: It’s true that some people assume AimPoint is only for elite players, but the reality is that it’s very straightforward once you understand the basics. We break it down into simple, repeatable steps so it’s accessible to everyone from the start.

For beginners, it begins with learning to feel the slope with their feet, no complicated maths or charts involved. Within a session or two, most realise they can predict breaks with surprising accuracy.

The biggest difference they notice is confidence. They stop guessing and start trusting their reads. That naturally leads to better pace control, fewer three-putts, and a calmer, more focused mindset on the greens.

Q: From your international coaching background to your work at Yas Acres, what role do you see AimPoint playing in helping golfers not just improve their scores, but also enjoy the game more?

Peter: AimPoint brings clarity to putting and transforms how golfers feel on the greens. Wherever I’ve coached around the world, I’ve seen players at every level become more engaged and positive once they understand how to read greens effectively.

At Yas Acres, it’s not just about chasing scores, it’s about helping golfers enjoy the process of learning and performing. When players start to see their putts roll on line and drop more often, their confidence and enjoyment naturally grow. That’s what makes AimPoint such a powerful coaching tool.

Q: You mentioned you’ve had a fascinating journey in golf. Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you came to join the team at Yas Acres?

Peter: I was born into a golfing family, my father and uncle were both golf professionals, and my grandfather was a club maker, so golf was always part of life. I enjoyed it as a kid but only started taking it seriously when I was about sixteen. I qualified as a PGA professional at twenty-one and took my first job at Wensum Valley in Norfolk, where I later became Head Pro. It was a busy 36-hole facility with a great community of golfers.

After that, I moved to Bonmont Golf Club in Barcelona, which had hosted European Tour events, and later to Brussels, where I worked at the Brussels Golf Club Training Academy and then at Houdoncourt, a small club but one of the best training facilities in Belgium. I later joined Brussels Drohme Golf Club before spending two years in southern Spain running a short-game coaching business, working independently across several clubs.

One day, I came across an article by Marc Arnold (Director of Instruction at Viya Golf Golf) titled “From Burnley to Bahrain and Beyond” in The PGA magazine. I messaged him, saying “From Darwen to Brussels and beyond,” as our stories had a lot in common. A few conversations later, we were discussing ideas for the academy, and now here I am. I’ve been at Yas Acres for nine weeks, and it’s already been an eventful start. Let’s just say I’m still getting the hang of Excel.

Q: With so many expats and international players living in the UAE, how do you think your experience working and living in different countries helps you in your role at Yas Acres?

Peter: I think it helps a great deal. Having lived and worked in several countries, I understand how golfers from different backgrounds learn and communicate. I also speak Spanish and French, which has been a big advantage here.

For example, I recently gave a lesson in Spanish to a player from South America and another in French to a Moroccan golfer. Being able to teach in someone’s native language instantly makes the experience more comfortable and personal.

Many of the expat golfers I’ve met so far are British, but the international mix here is fantastic, and having that cultural and linguistic versatility really helps build stronger relationships with players.

…………………….

With a broad international background and a modern, data-informed approach, Peter is already making his mark at Yas Acres. His experience across Europe and now the UAE brings valuable perspective to the academy’s growing reputation as a destination for golfers seeking structured, accessible, and enjoyable coaching experiences.

[Article kindly provided by the China Golf Association]

In September, two highly anticipated GolfSixes League tournaments concluded successfully in Tianjin and Beijing respectively, bringing a series of spectacular sports feasts to golf lovers across the country.

Tianjin Stop: 72 Players Gather to Compete on the Green

On September 13th, the first Golfsixes tournament officially kicked off at Tianjin 27 Golf Club. On that day, 72 golfers from all over China, including Beijing, Tianjin, and Hainan, gathered here. Among them were both experienced senior golfers and energetic new-generation enthusiasts, all competing fiercely for their golf dreams.

Tianjin 27 Golf Club provided an excellent competitive environment for the tournament with its high-quality venue conditions and complete supporting facilities. During the competition, the players were in high spirits—every swing was accurate and powerful, and every putt was focused. On the green, white golf balls traced beautiful arcs in the air, and the players’ figures looked particularly vigorous under the sun. Whether it was a precise chip shot or a long-distance drive, all demonstrated the players’ superb skills and good psychological quality. After several rounds of intense competition, the players’ scores were neck and neck, pushing the on-site atmosphere to a climax time and again.

Beijing Stop: 40 Players Compete on the Same Stage, Continuing the Tournament’s Splendor

One week later, on September 20th, the excitement of the Golfsixs tournament spread to Beijing Jingshanhu Golf Club. Although there were 40 participants in the Beijing stop, the players’ enthusiasm showed no sign of abating, and the intensity of the competition was equally amazing. Players from all over the country, filled with love for golf and desire for victory, launched a new round of competition on this scenic course.

The unique terrain and well-designed fairways of Beijing Jingshanhu Golf Club posed no small challenge to the players, but also stimulated their stronger competitive potential. During the game, the players gave full play to their technical advantages, flexibly responding to various complex situations, and every swing embodied wisdom and strength. The audience on the sidelines constantly cheered for the players’ wonderful performances, with applause and cheers rising one after another, becoming a beautiful scene on the field.

Glory Moment: Top Three Winners Emerge from Each Stop, Exclusive Honors Salute Dedication

After several rounds of intense competition, the top three players of each stop were determined respectively in Tianjin and Beijing.

At the award ceremony of the Tianjin stop, when the host announced the list of winners, the three award-winning players had bright eyes filled with excitement and proud smiles on their faces. On the green of Tianjin 27 Golf Club, they won the unanimous recognition of the on-site audience and opponents with their outstanding skills, tenacious fighting spirit, and good sportsmanship.

In Beijing, the three outstanding players also gained their own moment of glory. From accurately tackling the complex fairways of Jingshanhu Golf Club to overcoming pressure to complete crucial putts, every moment of their performance left a deep impression on the onlookers. The cheers when the results were announced even resounded across the course.

Subsequently, the award guests of the two stops presented custom-made medals and exclusive trophies to the winning players respectively. These honors are not only a recognition of the players’ strength, but also the best reward for their continuous efforts to break through themselves on the road of golf. Many award-winning players said after the tournament: “We not only won honors in this competition, but also met many golf lovers from all over the country. We exchanged skills and shared our passion together, and the atmosphere was really great. We will continue to polish our skills in the future and strive to show a better version of ourselves in more tournaments.”

The successful holding of the two GolfSixes tournaments not only provided a platform for golf enthusiasts across the country to communicate and compete, but also further promoted the popularisation and development of golf in China. Let us look forward to more wonderful golf tournaments in the future and witness more golf lovers shining on the green!

Golf Genius, the leading provider of cloud-hosted golf software solutions, has launched a new 4-step framework guide designed to help golf club managers and decision makers make more confident, evidence-based technology decisions.

Developed in collaboration with golf survey and insights specialists, Players 1st, as well as the Golf Club Managers Association (GCMA), CMAE Scotland, CMAI, UK Golf Federation and Golf Club Secretary, the guide provides a practical roadmap for assessing, selecting and implementing software across all areas of club operations.

Drawing on findings from the 2025 Golf Club Software Technology Report, which revealed that two-thirds of clubs are considering changing software providers and more than half are seeking external guidance, the 32-page framework enables club leaders to approach change with structure and clarity.

The white paper outlines a four-step process – Investigation, Tender, Decision and Implementation – each supported by practical tools including a Software Audit Tool, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator, Request for Proposal (RFP) Template and Supplier Evaluation Matrix. Together, these resources help managers assess the effectiveness of their current systems, benchmark supplier performance, and calculate long-term value beyond headline costs.

Craig Higgs, Managing Director of Golf Genius – International, commented: “Software has become a strategic asset, not just an operational tool. This framework was created to support club managers who want to make objective, informed decisions in an increasingly complex software landscape.”

The publication reflects Golf Genius’s broader commitment to strengthening the industry’s digital confidence through education and collaboration. It builds on the company’s Digital Playbook, which sets out how Golf Genius partners with golf associations, PGAs and clubs worldwide to deliver integrated technology that improves operational efficiency and enhances the golfer experience.

Jakob Buksted, Director of Research at Players 1st, added: “The more knowledge we can provide to clubs, the better equipped they are to select technology that fits their unique needs. This project gives decision makers the structure and insight they need to plan change responsibly and effectively.”

Golf Genius’s growing suite of technology solutions and supporting resources reflects its ongoing role as a trusted digital partner to golf organisations across more than 60 countries. From WHS Handicapping and Tournament Management to coaching and community engagement platforms, the company drives the game’s transition into the digital era through collaboration, integration and innovation.

As Senior Marketing Executive for Viya Golf Abu Dhabi, Heather Beattie plays a central role in promoting three of the UAE’s most prestigious golf destinations — CPG Collection Member Venue, Yas Links Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Beach, and Yas Acres Golf & Country Club.

Since joining Viya Golf in 2023, she has helped lead the group’s creative strategy, driving campaigns that not only showcase world-class golf facilities but also celebrate Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation as a global golf destination.

Originally from Scotland, Heather brings a fresh perspective and a creative energy to her role — combining her background in marketing, business development, and brand growth with a deep passion for storytelling. Whether coordinating international campaigns, supporting flagship events such as the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, or building the region’s growing community of women golfers, she is helping to shape the next chapter of golf’s evolution in the UAE.

…………………….

Q: You play a key role in supporting the team across three of the UAE’s leading courses: Yas Links, Saadiyat Beach and Yas Acres. How does it feel to be part of such a high-profile portfolio, and what aspects of your work give you the most satisfaction?

Heather: It’s really special to work for these clubs in Abu Dhabi, especially as they continue to grow and have such an impact on the golf scene in the UAE. Of course, being part of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship hosted at Yas Links Abu Dhabi is a huge highlight of the job, seeing the club on a global stage and the best players in the world walking our fairways.

However, for me, seeing our campaigns come to life is always the most satisfying aspect of the job. We spend weeks and months planning content, everything from concept development right through to publishing it across all of our channels, and seeing it go from a storyboard to stunning visuals and storytelling is amazing!

Q: Your role touches on many different areas of marketing and communications. What does a typical day look like for you, and how do you balance working across multiple clubs and projects at once?

Heather: I think most people who work in MarComms would say that there is no such thing as a typical day – which people either love or hate! I like the fact there is always a new campaign to work on, or an announcement from the clubs that we have to communicate.

Due to the seasonal nature of golf, I can plan ahead and know what projects or campaigns need to be running at certain stages of the year, so I can work on the bigger projects in advance and make sure we’re on track for launching them, then that means when new tasks, or photoshoots, or projects with our stakeholders pop up, I can focus on them knowing our core campaigns are organised. I’ve found this the best way to stay on top of things!

Q: Moving from Scotland to the UAE is a big step, both in life and career. What motivated you to take on this challenge, and what have been the biggest highlights of your experience so far?

Heather: It was a huge change, especially the climate!! But I’ve loved every second so far in the UAE, and especially Abu Dhabi. It surprised me how quickly I settled into life here. Working in golf in the UAE is a fantastic way to meet people and such a fun industry to be part of, so I’m glad I made the move.

There are endless highlights of my time here so far, but one thing I really appreciate, and think is unique to working in this part of the world, is how fast-paced everything is. It’s a completely different work environment. People are so passionate and continuously want to do better and be better, and just surrounding myself with this environment pushes me to do the same. Especially at a relatively early stage of my career, I couldn’t be in a better place to learn and grow, on an international scale.

Q: Golf is often seen as male-dominated industry, yet you’ve already made a strong impression early in your career. How have you found this environment, and what advice would you give to other women looking to grow in the industry?

Heather: The golf industry has historically been male-dominated, but I’m encouraged to see real progress in recent years, with more women building successful careers across the sector.

The Viya Golf clubs also have a strong ladies membership and have grown the ladies development programmes at the academy massively over the last few years. This has been a key goal as part of my role, to work on building the women’s golf community through the events at our clubs, and something I’m really proud of.

My advice to women looking to enter or progress in this industry is the same advice I’d give for any career: believe in your skills, trust your knowledge, and don’t hesitate to speak up and contribute your ideas.

As the only female PGA Professional in Abu Dhabi, Amy Condon is playing a vital role in making golf more welcoming and accessible across the UAE.

From inspiring women and juniors to harnessing cutting-edge technology at the Yas Links Academy at CPG Collection Member Venue, Yas Links Abu Dhabi, Amy is helping shape a new chapter of inclusive coaching in the region.

…………………….

Q: As the only female PGA professional in Abu Dhabi, how do you see your role in encouraging more women and juniors to take up the game of golf in the UAE?

Amy: Being the only female PGA professional in Abu Dhabi is both a privilege and a responsibility. I see my role as not just a coach, but also as a visible role model for women and juniors who may be curious about golf but don’t yet see themselves in the game. Representation matters.

I try to create a welcoming, inclusive and relaxed environment, where new players—especially women and children – feel comfortable taking those first steps onto the golf course. My aim is to completely remove the intimidation factor and show that golf can be fun, social, and accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background, or ability.

Q: Your coaching philosophy focuses on making lessons fun and accessible. Can you share an example of how you simplify complex techniques for your students?

Amy: Golf can be overwhelming if you dive straight into technical jargon. I like to break things down into simple, relatable concepts.

For example, instead of overloading a beginner with swing mechanics, I might compare the golf swing to drawing a specific letter of the alphabet, like a “Y” or an “L.” This gives the player a clear visual and feel without having to overthink the movement.

I also use CoachNow, which allows players to see video feedback of their swing. Often, what a player feels they’re doing and what they’re actually doing can be quite different- having that visual comparison really bridges the gap and speeds up the learning process.

By combining simple analogies, fun games, and technology, students stay engaged, learn faster, and most importantly, enjoy the process.

Q: You’ve worked with both beginners and elite players, including Irish internationals. How do you adapt your coaching style to meet the needs of such a wide range of golfers?

Amy: The key is flexibility and understanding what each golfer needs at their stage of development. Beginners often need confidence-building, encouragement, and simple fundamentals, while elite players benefit from more detailed feedback, data-driven insights, and marginal gains.

With juniors, it’s about keeping things playful and enjoyable, whereas with high-level players, it’s about structured practice and performance under pressure.

At Yas Links Abu Dhabi, we’re fortunate to have incredible technology at our disposal, such as TrackMan analysis and Swing Catalyst. TrackMan allows players to see precise data on ball flight, club delivery, and gapping, while Swing Catalyst gives valuable insights into movement patterns, balance, and ground force use.

For elite players, this technology helps take their game to the next level by providing clear visuals and feedback that support further learning and fine-tuning.

Q: Having coached in Dublin before moving to Yas Links, what differences have you noticed between the golf culture in Ireland and the UAE, particularly in terms of female participation?

Amy: In Ireland, golf has such a deep-rooted tradition and community presence—you often see families passing the game down through generations, and club competitions are a huge part of social life. In the UAE, the game is still growing, especially among women. What’s exciting here is the sense of opportunity—female participation is on the rise, and there’s a real appetite to learn.

At Yas Links, we’ve been building that community from the ground up with programs designed to support women’s development in the game. Last year, I introduced a monthly Par 3 event, which turned out to be extremely successful. It’s a non-competitive, fun, and exciting way for the ladies to take what we’ve worked on in class and apply it on the course.

The enthusiasm and diversity among the women and juniors here is incredible, and it feels like we’re part of shaping the future of golf in the region.

…………………….

With a blend of passion, creativity, and a focus on accessibility, Amy Condon continues to redefine what golf coaching looks like in the UAE. Her work at Yas Links is not only supporting players of all levels, but also building a stronger pathway for women and juniors to feel part of the game.

The newly relaunched Yas Links Golf Academy at CPG Collection Member Venue, Yas Links Abu Dhabi, is quickly establishing itself as one of the most advanced coaching hubs in the Middle East.

With cutting-edge technology, climate-controlled facilities, and the largest coaching team in the club’s history, the academy is redefining how golf is taught, played, and enjoyed in the region.

We sat down with Marc Arnold, Director of Instruction at Yas Links, to explore the philosophy behind the academy, the impact of its new tools and facilities, and what visiting PGA Professionals, players, and the wider community can expect from this exciting new chapter.

…………………….

Q: Yas Links is home to some of the most advanced coaching technology in the region, including PLATFORM Golf, Swing Catalyst, Sam PuttLab and Trackman. How do these tools change the game for visiting PGA Professionals and players looking for a true high-performance training experience?

Marc Arnold: We’ve invested heavily in the academy, bringing in some of the most advanced technology and coaching platforms available. PLATFORM Golf played a key role in rebuilding the academy from the ground up into what it is today.

These tools allow us to offer a much more data-driven, engaging coaching experience – not just for elite players, but for everyone.

Whether it’s juniors, beginners, or seasoned golfers, we can tailor the experience based on real-time data from Trackman, Swing Catalyst, and more.

This technology helps us elevate coaching at all levels and has become an integral part of our school programmes, junior development initiatives, and everyday lessons. It’s a real step forward in making high-performance golf accessible to all.

Q: With year-round access, including climate-controlled indoor facilities, Yas Links is able to maintain player development and coaching programmes throughout the summer. How has this helped your in-house team continue delivering consistent results during Abu Dhabi’s hotter months?

Marc Arnold: Living in the Middle East, the summer heat does have a big impact on participation. Traditionally, we see a drop-off from early June to the end of August. But with the addition of indoor, climate-controlled facilities, we’re able to offer our students a consistent coaching environment all year round.

Our professionals are using the studios every day during the hotter months. This means we’ve been able to retain more students over the summer, keep revenue steady, and continue delivering top-level coaching. The feedback from our members and guests has been really positive – it’s made a huge difference for the academy and the business overall.

Q: How do group coaching programmes and Viya Golf’s expanding academy network support your long-term growth strategy?

Marc Arnold: We’ve made great strides this year, not just at Yas Links, but across our academies at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Yas Acres Golf & Country Club as well. Each location is seeing strong growth, particularly in group programmes and private lessons.

Our coaching team has grown too – bringing in professionals with a broad range of experience and skills. That expansion has allowed us to offer more and tailor our services to a wider audience.

We’re continuing to look at ways to grow, whether through school engagement, expanding our junior development programme, or adding more tournaments and initiatives throughout the year. Having these facilities and the right team in place gives us the platform to keep pushing forward.

Q: Beyond the technology, the relaunch includes a clear investment in people – with the largest coaching team in the club’s history. What’s the thinking behind this growth, and how does it reflect the academy’s new philosophy?

Marc Arnold: We’re aiming to position Yas Links as one of the leading academies in the UAE, if not the Middle East. Bringing in more coaches and building the strongest team possible is a key part of that.

We’ve also introduced a new pricing structure, which allows us to offer different levels of coaching – from beginners to high-performance players. That’s opened up the academy to a much broader audience.

Another big milestone for us has been bringing in a female golf professional. We’ve seen that many women and juniors in the region feel more comfortable learning with a female coach, and we’re now able to engage with those groups in a much more meaningful way.

We’ve grown our ladies’ and juniors’ programmes, introduced par-3 social events, school programmes, and corporate clinics – all with the aim of offering more variety and value to our members and guests. It’s a complete shift in how we approach coaching and engagement.

Q: From your perspective, how does Abu Dhabi as a whole complement the golf offering at Yas Links? What can visiting players and coaching groups expect off the course in terms of hospitality, lifestyle, and culture?

Marc Arnold: Abu Dhabi is evolving rapidly. We’re seeing more hotels, more schools, more theme parks – there’s a huge amount of development and energy in the city right now.

For visiting players, it’s not just Yas Links they’re experiencing – we also have Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Yas Acres Golf & Country Club, both of which are world-class venues in their own right.

Off the course, visitors can enjoy fantastic restaurants, hotels, and entertainment options. The feedback we’ve had has been brilliant – many of our guests are now coming back year after year, not just for the golf, but for the complete experience that Abu Dhabi offers.

Q: With participation rising, especially among juniors and women, how is the academy approaching grassroots development? And how does this fit into your long-term vision for growing the game in Abu Dhabi and the wider region?

Marc Arnold: We’re currently reviewing our junior offering and planning to restructure it again next year to make it even stronger. I’m incredibly proud of what the team has accomplished – we had 200 juniors at our end-of-season presentation this year, which shows just how far we’ve come.

We’ve launched par-3 tournaments, attracting up to 50 juniors per event. That gives young players exposure to the competitive side of the sport, helps them learn rules and etiquette, and introduces them to different formats like scrambles.

We’re also working more closely with local schools and the Emirates Golf Federation to expand our reach and get more kids involved in the game.

There’s a lot to be excited about – including some big projects in the pipeline for 2026. I can’t say too much yet, but the work we’re doing now is laying the foundation for even greater growth in the years ahead.

…………………….

From world-class technology to grassroots development, the Yas Links Golf Academy is combining innovation with accessibility to shape the future of coaching in Abu Dhabi. With strong leadership, a growing team, and bold plans for the years ahead, it’s clear that Yas Links is setting a new benchmark for golf education and player development – not just in the UAE, but across the wider region.

Clubs and junior golfers sign up for GolfSixes leagues in large numbers and enjoy new end of season Open event

Scottish Golf is delighted to report a record-breaking season of GolfSixes League action in 2025 featuring juniors from all regions of the country.

GolfSixes League, the national programme that caters for young, beginner golfers by providing a fun introduction to team golf in a pairs scramble format, has proved to be smash hit ever since it was piloted as part of Scottish Golf’s National Junior Framework in 2018.

This year higher levels of participation (and fun!) were achieved through both the GolfSixes League core programme and also the new-look end of year Open.

During 2025:

145 clubs signed up for Golf Sixes events (up from 137 in 2024)

33 local leagues were in play (up from 30 in 2024)

Around 2000 beginner boys and girls got involved in GolfSixes activities

Remote clubs enjoyed GolfSixes through a new ‘online’ league initiative

The season ended with a bang when 250 juniors from all six regions took part in the inaugural Scottish GolfSixes Open at Blairgowrie Golf Club in partnership with PING.

The Open brought together teams from the 33 leagues in one setting for a two-day event that replaced the previous format of regional and national finals.

The aims of the Open were simple – to reach a larger number and more diverse group of clubs, including rural and island clubs, and host an inspiring national event that would create memories to last a lifetime.

As well as playing a GolfSixes tournament, the boys and girls were able to enjoy skills challenges and interact with their peers in other small-sided games on and off the course.

Royal Dornoch pipped North Inch Juniors to the Open title with Portlethen, Dunblane, Banchory, Annanhill, Kings and Airdrie golf clubs all among the prize winners in categories such as nearest the pin and the dartboard challenge.

Fraser Crawford, participation manager at Scottish Golf, said: “The 2025 GolfSixes season has been a brilliant success thanks to the combined efforts of the clubs, the team managers and volunteers and, of course, the super enthusiastic youngsters who took part in our activities.

“The aim of GolfSixes, backed by The R&A and Golf Foundation, has always been to provide a fun introduction to golf for boys and girls that supports their development and retention within the sport.

“Team golf is absolutely central to this.

“If they enjoy the team activities and experience at one of our development events, then learning the fundamental skills follows as a natural consequence.

“This year it was amazing to have 145 clubs from every corner of the country sign up to the GolfSixes League programme.

“We were also delighted to deliver an online league that enabled clubs in more remote or island areas to join in the fun and compete against other clubs for the first time.

“The real thrill for us as a participation team was watching 250 juniors gather at Blairgowrie for the Open and see how much fun they had.

“The smiles and the laughter heard over those two days tell a story that is hard to convey simply through numbers.

“The kids had a ball, and it truly was a national celebration of junior golf.

“The Open complemented perfectly the leagues that have been going on throughout the year.

“In past years, only local winners progressed to the regional and national finals. This new format opened up that opportunity for many more youngsters and clubs and was really well received.

“We’ll now look to build on this year’s success with our expanded plans for 2026 which aim to encourage more clubs to join up and more young people to get involved in our flagship programme which is now well established as a key part of the junior player pathway in Scotland.”

From the unique demands of Royal Portrush to the mental routines that keep a two-time major champion sharp, Ivar shares the behind-the-scenes lessons and practical insights that coaches can take straight to their own players.

………………..

When you think of the absolute pinnacle of professional golf, the name Collin Morikawa is impossible to ignore. Winner of both the PGA Championship and The Open, Morikawa is the epitome of modern professional golf: technically refined, mentally strong, and leaving nothing to chance.

But how does such a top player actually prepare for a major like The Open, with all the unique conditions that a links course like Royal Portrush entails?

Thanks to the special collaboration between Ivar van der Moolen and Rick Sessinghaus, he was given an exclusive glimpse into Morikawa’s preparation.

Sessinghaus, Morikawa’s PGA coach for over twenty years and director of FlowCode Golf, and Van der Moolen, PGA of Holland Member and mental performance coach since 1993 and developer of MTP, have been joining forces for the past year and a half. Together, they share a deep passion: helping golfers of all levels perform better and with more enjoyment on the golf course by strengthening the mental aspect of the game.

The Collaboration: A Mental Masterclass

When Ivar van der Moolen joined Rick Sessinghaus’ coaching team 1,5 year ago, a fruitful collaboration emerged, focused on knowledge exchange and development. This resulted in a unique opportunity: experiencing Morikawa’s preparation for The Open at Royal Portrush up close.

“A fantastic experience,” said Van der Moolen. “It’s impressive to see how a player of Morikawa’s caliber prepares for a tournament of this magnitude down to the smallest details.”

For Coaches: the key takeaway is that mental readiness is not an add-on to technical training — it’s embedded into every decision, drill, and discussion.

Adapting the Game to Royal Portrush

Royal Portrush is not just any golf course. The wind, the rugged terrain, the thick rough, and the changeable weather make it a world-class challenge. For a player who has mainly experience on the American tour, that means serious adjustments.

Morikawa paid close attention to studying the grass types around the greens — which are significantly different in Northern Ireland than on American courses.

Putting on slower greens compared to the PGA tour also required adjustment, as did the choice of landing spots from the tee in relation to the bunkers.

During the practice rounds, Sessinghaus and Morikawa closely examined the influence of the weather and the layout of the course. Nothing was left to chance. Every shot, every lie was evaluated with a view to the most likely conditions during the tournament.

For Coaches: Build adaptability into practice. Create sessions that expose players to variable conditions and require decision-making, not just repetition.

Mental Focus in a Busy Week

In addition to the technical adjustments, there is the mental aspect – perhaps the most important part of preparing for a major. “What struck me,” says Van der Moolen, “is how well Collin sets his mental goals, even during practice rounds. He’s not just hitting balls; everything is done with a clear plan.”

The public wanting autographs, journalists requesting interviews between training sessions, and the constant pressure of being a multiple major winner – these are all elements that can disrupt mental balance. Sessinghaus acts as an anchor in all of this. He ensures that Morikawa stays in his own “bubble” and maintains his focus.

For Coaches: Encourage players to set clear mental and technical goals for every round and training session. This instils intent and keeps practice purposeful.

Details Make the Difference

Nothing in Morikawa’s preparation is left to chance:

During short game training, specific club choices were discussed and adapted to the circumstances.

Putting was where the finishing touches were made: how hard should a ball be rolled on greens that are slightly slower than normal? How does the break change in combination with the wind?

“Even the lesser shots during the practice rounds are analysed and evaluated,” says Van der Moolen. “Not with frustration, but with curiosity. What can we learn from this? How do we ensure that this does not happen during the tournament, and when it does happen, how do we deal with it?

For Coaches: Model this mindset with your students. Review both good and bad shots in training, focusing on “what can we learn?” rather than blame.

Dealing with Expectations

An important part of preparation is dealing with the expectations of others – the public, the media, and even your own team. For a player like Morikawa, with two majors already under his belt, expectations are high.

Rick Sessinghaus helps Morikawa turn that pressure into focus.

Instead of thinking about winning, the emphasis is on the process and what you as a player and team have 100% control over: preparing optimally, making the right choices, maintaining mental calm, and remaining flexible under changing circumstances. The result is what ultimately matters.

The process is a prerequisite for achieving the optimal result. And is therefore sacred.

For Coaches: Teach athletes to separate controllables from uncontrollables. Build routines that anchor them in the present task, especially under pressure.

How Coaches Can Apply These Insights

While your players might not be walking the fairways of Royal Portrush under TV cameras, the principles are universal:

Plan with purpose — give every session a clear focus.

Train for adaptability — change variables, conditions, and challenges.

Build mental routines — protect focus in high-distraction environments.

Normalise reflection — treat every shot as a learning opportunity.

Focus on process — results follow from great preparation.

These approaches not only improve performance but also deepen player engagement and trust in your coaching.

From Tour Insights to Your Coaching Business

The methods used with Morikawa are scalable for all levels — from juniors to elite amateurs — and can be integrated into your own coaching with the right tools and frameworks.

The Mental Toughness Programme was built for exactly this purpose: giving coaches practical, ready-to-use mental skills resources that help players focus better, stay resilient, and perform with more confidence — while also creating new business opportunities through structured delivery.

At the heart of Glenmuir SS26 lies a dedication to natural fibres, recycled fabrics, and conscious craftsmanship.
Widely recognised for hosting some of Spain’s finest golf experiences, Sotogrande is home to iconic venues, Real Club Valderrama, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande and La Reserva Club. Now, The Alto Club brings a bold and contemporary new vision to the region – combining an exciting 18-hole championship course, a brand-new par-3 layout designed by Manuel Piñero, and a state-of-the-art Golf Academy located on the former Alcornoques nine-hole loop of Almenara’s 27-hole course.

The Alto Club Academy, which will officially open on the 1st of September, is the first of its kind on the Costa del Sol and has been designed to support players of all levels – from beginners to aspiring professionals – with a focus on accessibility, fun, and community. More than a training facility, it aims to be a welcoming space where the local community, club members, visiting golfers, and resort guests can discover or deepen their love for the game.

The academy complements the existing 18-hole championship layout at The Alto Club, originally designed by Dave Thomas and later refined by Spanish golfing legend, Manuel Piñero. Just steps away, guests of SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort enjoy five-star accommodation, an award-winning spa, and elevated gastronomy – creating a seamless connection between world-class golf, wellbeing, and hospitality.

That’s exactly what we’re creating at The Alto Club Golf Academy.”

The Golf Academy will feature a Toptracer-equipped driving range with natural grass and covered artificial tee lines, two dedicated swing analysis suites featuring Foresight and Swing Catalyst technology, custom fitting, short-game areas with multiple greens and bunkers, and night-time training access. A newly designed nine-hole par-3 course will also provide an ideal environment for sharpening players’ iron play and short game, with holes ranging from 200m down to 80m.

Tailored coaching programmes will be available year-round, covering every aspect of development, from full-swing mechanics and course management to mental approach and competitive preparation. Whether visitors are just starting out, returning to the game, or training seriously, the Academy is purpose-built to support their progress in a welcoming, structured environment.

Here’s what clubs are really seeking.

It’s less about cost, and more about quality, support, and suitability.

In the 2025 Golf Club Software Technology Report released by Golf Genius, Players 1st and several trade associations, a significant truth was uncovered: 66% of golf clubs surveyed in the UK & Ireland would consider switching software providers. So, what are the reasons for this and how could they impact a golf club when planning out future software requirements?

In short, product quality played a much bigger role than product cost. In fact, only 10% of golf clubs identified cost as a factor for considering moving away from their current supplier.

48% of respondents identified ‘Product does not meet their requirement’ as a reason for their consideration to switch. In other words, whether software fulfils their needs or not was at the core of this concern, and highlights the importance of continuous product development to meet club expectations.

“The underlying problem that our industry faces is that it is hard for one supplier to have expertise across all these fields, to do everything really well,” Mike Zisman, Golf Genius Founder and Executive Chairman.

Product development was also a key factor towards a golf club’s consideration to switch, with one in four clubs expressing a desire for more innovation in their software tools. As golf clubs navigate increasing expectations from members, tighter financial constraints, and more complex operations, standing still is no longer acceptable – products must be constantly improved, updated and streamlined.

Interestingly, only 13% of golf clubs cited ‘Supplier support’ as a contributing factor. This suggests that while help desks may be reachable, the systems themselves aren’t evolving or aligning with club needs—higher levels of support can be linked to the introduction of new products, features and capabilities (because customers need more help using them), and so support levels are often a strong indicator as to whether suppliers are developing their products or not.

With two-thirds of golf clubs considering a software switch, this report has unearthed a growing problem in the market that to this point, has not been highlighted: many golf clubs feel stuck but find the process of change daunting. Nevertheless, there is a strong interest in exploring better-supported, more innovative alternatives—indicating a clear demand for solutions that are forward-thinking and responsive to the unique needs of today’s golf clubs.

As the number of ‘best-in-breed’ providers in the market grows – specialising in Tee Sheets, PoS, Membership solutions and more—the opportunity to address club manager’s appetites for alternative solutions is being realised. Golf Genius has built over 100 integrations with other specialist providers such as BRS, Lightspeed and Golf Manager – supporting the development principle that innovation comes from working with the best suppliers in their respective areas of expertise.

This signals a moment of opportunity. Golf clubs that take the time to assess their systems and seek solutions that align with their specific operations will benefit from greater levels of efficiency, staff wellbeing and golfer satisfaction.

……………………………..

Key Takeaway

Golf clubs are not necessarily looking for cheaper software. They want software that works for them. Fit and function are the true priorities.
