The full schedule of seminars and speakers for the 2014 Confederation of Professional Golf Coaches Circle and Heads of Training Summit has been announced and will see the two events span five days at Italy’s Chervò Golf Hotel Spa & Resort San Vigilio from the 24th – 28th March.

Each of the speakers will look at areas of coaching and education that are relevant to either high performance coaches or those involved with the development of the education programmes in each of the Association’s 36 Member PGAs. Along with the speakers below, attendees at the CCHoTS will have the opportunity to listen to, learn from and interact with coaches working with elite Italian players, a former tour professional and The Confederation of Professional Golf’s own staff.

• Paul Eales – Two-time European Tour winner, non-Executive Director of the European Tour, and PGA of Great Britain & Ireland Professional. Paul will look back at his playing and coaching experience to explain more on the transition from amateur to professional golf from the coach’s perspective and will reveal the critical steps required for a smooth transition.
• Dr. Brian Hemmings – Golf psychologist and former lead psychologist to England Golf, Dr. Hemmings, will feature in both the CC and HoTS sections of the week, firstly in the Coaches Circle looking at psychological issues in the transition from amateur to professional golf and then in the Heads of training examining the shift to becoming a customer-focused professional. Dr Hemmings will also conduct some practical sessions in the middle of the week.
• Jesús Rodríguez Salvador – PGA of Spain Master Professional and Technical Director of the High Performance Center for the Spanish Golf Federation, Jesús Rodríguez Salvador, will draw on his experiences with the Spanish Golf Federation in the development of a high performance centre.
• Dominic Bott – Caddie to European Tour stars such as Thomas Bjorn, Paul Casey and Colin Montgomerie. Dominic will speak at the Coaches Circle discussing his experiences on the bag of high level Professionals and just how important it is to have a good caddie, especially for a rookie professional.
• Much Maier – Former professional downhill skier and Head Coach to the Italian Women’s skiing team, Much Maier, will kick off the Coaches Circle with a look at performance and dealing with high-level athletes using his experience with Olympic athletes.
• David Kearney – Irish Ladies Golf Union National Coach and PGA of Great Britain & Ireland Advanced Professional, David Kearney, will explain how best to prepare players for the American College System, from their playing ability and competitive opportunities to applying and adjusting to life and education in the United States.
• Nicola De Pisapia, PhD. – Researcher at the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science and ODFLab, University of Trento, Nicola De Pisapia, will explain the benefits of mental training for athletes at both the Coaches Circle and Heads of Training Summit.

The fourth CCHoTS will again consist of the two events that will span each half of a week:

COACHES CIRCLE (CC), 24-26 March 2014 – Here national coaches, coaches of elite players (on a level 1,2 or 3 tour), and coaches involved in national junior programmes, are invited to attend theory and practical sessions.

HEADS OF TRAINING SUMMIT (HoTS), 27-28 March 2014 – This year there will be several practical workshop sessions on the European Education Level System (EELS), with particular focus on how to prepare for its implementation, along with sessions focused on the latest information relating to the training of PGA Golf Professionals. After a very successful tournament premiere last July, the sequel now follows: A total of 156 players will compete for the second tournament of the European Challenge Tour from July 3rd to 6th, 2014 at the Beckenbauer Golf Course in Europe’s largest Golf & Spa Resort. New to this year is the Greek airline AEGEAN Airlines that is supporting the tournament as the title sponsor, so it will now be called the AEGEAN Challenge Tour by Hartl Resort. AEGEAN Airlines supports golf through various projects like the well-known AEGEAN Airlines Pro-Am, the PGAs of Eu- rope sanctioned “June” event. As in the previous year, the grand prize of 170,000 Euros will be played for. The Hartl Resort experiences partnership and support in the imple- mentation and marketing of the tournament through Switzerland based 4sports & Enter- tainment AG, which is a globally operating company in the sports marketing industry.

In the first edition of the tournament in July 2013, Italian Andrea Pavan won with an out- standing score of 19 strokes under par and thus, sealed the prize of 27,200 Euros. Best German tied at 21st was Sebastian Heiselse from Dillingen.

„Over the past year we have received a lot of compliments from the players and manag- ers of the Challenge Tour for hosting the tournament,” says Volker Schwartz, executive director of the Hartl Resort. “We want to build on this and be even better this year. The Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship will have a decidedly Canadian feel this year.

In a move to significantly strengthen the championship, which takes place March 28-30 at Turtle Hill Golf Club at the Fairmont Southampton Resort in Bermuda, the PGA of Canada championship operations team has been enlisted to partner with the current tournament team, Bermuda Tees.

“We want to make the Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship a truly world class event and felt we needed to bring in one of the best operations team in the world–the PGA of Canada–to execute the various aspects of the event from start to finish,” says Turtle Hill Golf Club’s Director of Golf Anthony Mocklow. “The PGA of Canada championship operations team has a proven track record of putting on best in class golf championships, so it makes a lot of sense to have them partner with us and take the Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship to the next level.

With a total purse of $75,000, the world’s premier par 3 championship is expected to attract more than 160 participants from 15 different countries including a number of players from the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC.

The PGA of Canada also has 10 exemptions directly into the World Par 3 Championship starting in 2014. While the top 10 players from the PGA of Canada Player Rankings are already exempt-with No.1-ranked Billy Walsh, No. 3 Dave Levesque, No. 5 Danny King, No. 6 Eric Laporte and No. 7 Brian McCann having already confirmed to play-the championship is now open to all PGA of Canada members.

Other PGA of Canada members expected to tee it up include Jean Laforce and Keir Smith.

I believe the Rules of Golf App in Spanish will be very useful to solve any doubt arising on the course.”

David Rickman, Executive Director – Rules and Equipment Standards at The R&A, said, “The aim of the app is to act as a quick and easy reference guide to the most frequently occurring Rules and to help ensure golfers are prepared for the many different situations which they might face on the golf course. We hope the app will be used by golfers in many Spanish speaking countries, including those in Latin America.”

Haremza began his campaign with a tumultuous round on day one carding eight birdies with three bogeys and a double-bogey ending on three-under, but kept his game steadier on day two for a one-under par 70.

The final round began with two-birdies, but two bogeys early in the back nine soon countered these. However, a quick-fire birdie response at the 13th and then regulation pars until the finish enabled him to finish two ahead.

“It feels really nice,” said Haremza. “After quite a long winter for me in Germany, and playing in this tournament for the first time on a perfect golf course, it feels really good. I played really well on the first 10 holes and then I kind of lost the swing a little bit, perhaps I was a little bit tired or nervous maybe and on the back nine I hit some really good shots.

“It was the first time for me here and I came with a really nice team of guys that I’ve known for a long time, so basically I just wanted to enjoy it, and I knew if I played half decent then I can always play well, but I didn’t really expect much so it’s nice.”

Polish Professional, Max Saluda, saw an up-and-down round across the PGA Sultan course, which left him on two-over par for the day but three-under for the tournament to take second place in the Individual Professional tournament.

Lying in tie-third was PGA of Italy Professional, Georgio Grillo, alongside PGA of Turkey Professional, Ulas Karatas, who both matched each day’s scores (73, 71, 68) to finish on two-under par.

The Team Pro-Am tournament was won by PGA of Israel Professional Itamar Cohen and his team of Moty Fisheman, Daniel Kleinberg, Zvika Arskovitsh, with 179 points, followed by PGA of Great Britain & Ireland Professional, Chris Baron and his team in second (171), and PGA of Turkey Professional, Bulent Karatas and team in third (167).

Turkey’s own Bulent Karatas leads the way at the 2014 Kempinski “The Dome” Pro-Am after a first round six-under par 66 around The Pasha Course at Antalya Golf Club, Belek, lying one shot ahead of the pack with two rounds to play.

Karatas is one of three family members playing in the Pro-Am but faired best of the bunch started with three birdies in the first four holes, followed by a bogey and six and a double at 9, but then when on to make an incredible six birdies across his back-nine.

Fellow countryman Hakan Yamac also filled his card with bogeys and birdies and with five birdies on his back-nine finisnehd at five-under par after Round 1, whilst PGA of Germany Profesisonal, Jason Evans, kept things a little simpler with 14 regulation pars and four bidies to end up two shots off the pace at four-under par (68).

Tie-fourth M Haremza started a little shaky but birdies holes six to eleven and then the 18th to end up on three-under par (69), algonside the PGA of Poland’s Max Saluda, who carded the low round on the PGA Sultan course with his 69.

The Team competition is led by Bulent Karatas’ team along with Itamar Cohen’s team both with 89 points a piece. Round 2 sees the final day of the Pro-Am Team tournament, after which the Professionals will play together for their final round and the amateurs will play a single round amateur-only tournament.

The Swedish team made light work of their opening nine-holes with a birdie on the third and a stunning eagle on the par-four sixth hole on Lumine’s Lakes course, which was then followed up by another two birdies on holes 11 and 12. A blip bogey on 15 was swiftly countered by their second eagle of the round at the par-five 15th hole.

Two pairs share second place, with one of them coming from the Lakes course as well in the form of Xavier and Alain Ruiz Fonhof (PGA of Holland) who carded 14 regulation pars and four birdies to finish up with a four-under par 67.

The other pair tied for second place hailed from across the road at Lumine’s Hills course, and share an incredible 962 European Tour appearances between them – Paul Broadhurst and Robert Coles.

Both players represent the PGA of Great Britain & Ireland, and began their campaign with three birdies in the first three holes of the par-72 course, and a single bogey on the seventh that was countered by birdies on 10 and 16 gave them a solid four-under 68.

Four pairs – Jesus Maria Arruti & Fernando Roca (PGA of Spain), Calle Carlsson & Ake Nilsson (PGA of Norway and PGA of Sweden), Jose Carro Pernas & Luis Portela Rial (PGA of Spain), and George Cowan & Michael Nesbit (PGA of GB&I) – sit in a tie for fourth place, with the top 25 pairs all under par. All the pairs are readying themselves for Round 2 ‘moving day’ to ensure they make the cut mark of 40th place and ties.
